Must Read Books for Salespeople
For those of you that work on a sales desk, whether institutional or corporate, what books do you recommend reading that will help one gain an edge? Any books that give insight on strengthening client relationships, networking, influencing people, etc. I have compiled a list of books that others have recommended - add to the list:
The Accidental Salesperson
How to Win Friends and Influence People
The Greatest Salesman in the World
Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion
Think and Grow Rich
Also, for those that have been in the industry, what are some tips that you recommend on being successful and progressing through your career?
I would like to add Mind Power into the 21st Century by John Kehoe.
In sales it is very important to be positive and not getting down on yourself.
Good Books / Resources For Sales (Originally Posted: 10/08/2012)
Hi - Does anyone know of any good books / resources relating to sales and how to be successful in sales, specifically in financial services?
I know there must be a wealth of resources in this space (some good and some not so good) so I'm wondering if anyone has any tips.
Thanks

What kind of sales? Can you be more specific?
Liar's Poker.

You don't need to read a book to do well in sales. That industry is something you either have the skill set and personality for or you don't.
Lololol, read a book???? It's not so important to know much about the snow. It's more important to be able to sell it to the eskimo.
bombardiers is really good

agree w/dale carnegie. plus anything by zig ziglar, frank bettger, or paul j meyer
edit: all of those are old authors, so you should be able to get from thriftbooks or alibris for super cheap. I use thriftbooks exclusively (most books $4-7 plus free shipping on any books shipped within US)

Found the above helpful. Cheers.
You can find some great Ziglar and Napolean Hill audio books on youtube and they make for easy listening during your commute to the office.
What to read and watch for sales people (Originally Posted: 07/24/2012)
I made the below list for a work study a while back (i sent it to him by email). I was cleaning my inbox and stumbled upon it, enjoy.
Trading (Fixed Income): Liar's Poker Mergers and Acquisition: Monkey's Business Reason for the crisis: The Big Short
Maybe: Private equity: Barbarians at the Gate (watch the movie, book is super long, but worth it if you have the time)
Films: Wall Street Boiler Room Don't watch Wall Street 2
Glengarry Glen Ross (For sales people, nothing about wall street, but very often quoted on the trading floor) American Psycho (Good movie about an M&A banker, but has nothing to do with banking)
I don't get it.
Sorry should have been clearer - I wrote a list and sent it by email to a work study a while back. The list included books and movies to watch. Very short list, but I believe quite to the point.
