Goldman Sachs Global Investment Research Interview
Hi all,
I have an interview with GS global investment research group this week. I'm interviewing for their portfolio and strategy team.
Any advice on how to prepare. I figured we will probably cover current economic conditions, trends, stock pitch, fit questions. Also, if anyone has interviewed please share your experience.
Thank you in advance.
Interested in how your interview went? Feel free to PM me

Hey guys,
So i have a 2nd interview coming up for an SA position with GS GIR and, while I know this site has lots to offer in regards to equity research, goldman's GIR division also covers macroeconomics, commodities, credit and portfolio strategy. I was wondering if I should approach interview preparation mostly focusing on equity research or if Im expected to have a demonstrated passion/knowledge of every aspect of global investing research. Thanks in advance for advice, especially from people within research divisions!
no you don't need to be an expert in ER, commodities, global macro, credit, etc. all at once I'd say certainly have a few stock pitches prepared, but past that be able to articulate which area you are interested in (macro vs equities vs credit etc), why, and have informed opinions about that topic.
I heard that GIR wasn't taking interns this summer?

Hello Monkeys, I just got invited to GS final round for global investment research (summer analyst). Has anyone here been through this process / can tell me what to expect? I will obviously have some stocks ready to pitch (long and short), but what other technical questions might they throw at me. Any advice is useful. Feel free to PM me as well if you dont want to post.

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had first round interview for GS GIS.
Can anyone give me brief overview about the interview and what they ask?
And any information on how they handle phone interviews?
ANYTHING WILL HELP!
Mostly behavioral and fit. They really care about why you are looking at GIR, and not IBD / S&T.
Also read up on how GIR is structured at the firm. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, and that shows your commitment to doing it.

would i get any mathematical and financial questions?
and what do you mean by behavior and fit
thank you
run a search or read any interview guide
all GS first rounds (hk) are pretty straightforward... mostly fit and passion for finance... keep in mind its extremely hard to land GIR... space is very limited.last year they had books of resumes for GIR and only took like 4 5 interns
do you know how many applicants are selected for first round?
this isnt for HK though.
any idea how many they take?
is GIR more competitive than IBD and S&T?

Anyone done the interview yet? Who with? What type of questions? Really want this one so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
Some of the worst analysts in London work in Peterborough Court.
serious.....dont really know much about the department itself....how do you know this
some of them are not that bad but moat people in the business really consider GS research to be an extension of the prop desk. Many on the buyside begrudgingly deal with them because they have the flow or they want to get in on deals but its not because of the quality of the research.
GS ER is garbage.
to clarify, GS ER is not respected b/c it's a prop of the prop desk and all traders for that matter. GS is a hedge fund in some respects, so ER is really a small investment of GS' budget.

Did they reject you?
Why does it not respected? It's GS!
are you stupid? just because it's goldman does not make it the best. and it's true goldman equity research is not the most respected on the street and is barely hanging on to top 10 status. goldman just doesn't care about the division as much as other banks. it has such limited distribution.
and this is coming from someone who rejected an offer from them btw.
Goldman's research is at the service of it's IB division... don't go there. If you want to have a good ER career start go to UBS or JP Morgan.
