Goldman Sachs IMD Regulatory Control or Oliver Wyman FS consulting
I have two second round interviews coming up with each of these companies. They are both for experienced hire level positions. I can see the positives for each of them. Any thoughts?
Very different positions, do an extensive research on what they do and take the one that fits the most with your interests and career plans.
One is middle office and one is front office. In my opinion, OW FS is a solid choice over GS compliance for the following reasons.
Work: Sure you might have some compliance projects at OW FS but there are a variety of projects you will be exposed I beyond that (m&a, growth strat, due diligence etc).
Pay: The pay will be better too at OW. All in you are looking at 90-110k. Not sure about GS but most likely I'm guessing it's going to sub 90k around the 60-80k range (someone please correct me if I'm completely off here)
Prestige: yes GS comes up strong in everyone's prestige book but i bet it's not for their regulatory control. OW on the other hand is still a top consulting firm. Well respected for their FS and aviation practices. Having a solid performance from OW FS will definitely open more doors down the line than GS regulatory. If you think working at GS might improve your chances of moving to other groups within the bank, it wouldn't be that easy to move out of middle office compliance role and into front office. A lateral from OW FS would give you better chances and you can also move elsewhere in the consulting industry. MBB poach from OW especially for FS consultants.
Hope that helps
Thanks for the input. I think i am leaning OW. I was really impressed with them on my last set of interviews. Dare I say, I even enjoyed the case interview. As for pay, I have spoken to HR with both companies and I would be coming in at Senior Consultant at OW and Associate at GS. The pay seems to be similar.
Didn't know it's for a senior position, just assumed it was for new grad (oops) and gave you the undergrad salary range. Best of luck.
OW is way to go IMO
i took the job with Wyman. My current company matchd the higher of the salaries but decided to go with OW. Looking forward to starting next month.
