Goldman Sachs' Private Capital team (ESSG)

Hey monkeys,

What can you tell me about Goldman Sachs' Private Capital team, which sits within the European Special Situations Group? The analyst role/job type/culture/ anything really... it's quite tough to find tangible information on this team

Have face-to-face interviews coming up, no modelling yet

Thanks, Actiblue

Actiblue, can you provide any information on the interview process / team if you have met them in an interview? As you say, there is not much info online..

Thanks

Hey guys, I have gone through few rounds of interviews with ESSG in London. You're right there's very little information online. During the interviews, they don't expect you to know much about the team because everything they do is very private. I've talked to some people in PE before the interview and everyone told me it's one of the hardest teams to get into at Goldman, They usually hire from Blackstone or other top-tier jobs and the people I've met during the interviews are exceptionally smart!

Having said that, the interviews were very technical and to be honest to most of the questions you can't even prepare for in advance. They put you on the spot and want to see whether you have the investor mindset, how you assess investments. Many brainteasers, math tests and case studies about investment were most part of the interviews.

The competition for a spot in ESSG is insane, the MD told me during my interviews that there is a success rate of less than 1% for entry-level jobs. However, it all comes with a very dynamic and tough working hours (which I believe are worth it). Good luck with your interviews!
