It is a highly selective program and places well if you want to do trading as a sophomore/junior summer analyst in securities at Goldman. Few students from my school did the spring internship and are / will be full-time traders at the firm. Also great from a networking POV - spring interns got their top desks (commodities, SES, convertibles). Feel free to reach out, though we'll also be writing a post about it below (how selective, which schools, what the program is like, what the options are afterwards). Good luck.
I hate to bump two topic in one day but no one ever pulled through with PMs and with articles so I'm back to square one. Who has any more info/experience with the program other than what is on the company page?

That being said, would it still be worth applying to the Goldman Spring Securities program for sophomores even if I intend to do banking for my junior year summer?
My main reasons would be to a) Add something really solid to my resume (assuming I was able to land the gig...which I'm aware is extremely difficult and unlikely) and b) To actually see what S&T is all about before I write it off as a possible career choice.
Also, I'm aware that there is a GS Spring IBD program, but it doesn't fall under the dates of my school's spring break so I'm not eligible for that. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Sorry to be asking this, but even though I'm at a high target, the program application procedures haven't been made clear at all! Not that I am qualified at all, but wanted to throw in a shot at the least.
So could someone please tell me how to apply- just on the website then?
You should definitely do it. If you do well in the Spring Program you can secure yourself an interview or potentially even an offer for an internship your following year.
It says the deadline coincides with your school's deadline for regular SA stuff and today was the deadline for that so I don't think I was late. But thanks.
I was thinking of their spring internship program... but if you were referring to the program where they just have like a 3-4 day firm orientation, then I was wrong and you are not too late.
If it's the 3-4 day program, yes you should do it. It's a great networking opportunity, gives you a good overview of the firm's culture, and maybe you'll end up liking S&T. Good luck
Anybody here been through the interview process for this? I got an interview and would like to know what kind of questions are asked. Standard banking questions or softer stuff?
I applied for both securities and investment banking spring programs and got an interview for investment banking. Anyone hear anything back from this program?
I believe interviews at my school have been conducted for both programs because our drop date ended before winter break (my friends at other schools said their's ended in late January). But, I got contacted via phone call, so maybe the securities process is different.
From what I've heard, all the interviews for GS Securities are very intense and technical. People I have talked to said it is good though because that is the culture of GS. It allows them to weed out people that wouldn't fit. For what I've heard talking to a SA who was in the Securities division last year, they only offered something like 15% of the from the Securities division and every week they would have a session where senior people would come in ask them any question they wanted. Still, the person spoke positive of the overall experience even though he didn't receive an offer.

I got a call for a first-round phone screen for the spring IBD over winter break. My friend just got a call from securities for a phone screen scheduled next week. I'm pretty sure all their spring programs are going to be calls to cut costs.
GS says on its website "deadline coincides with the summer intern application deadline at our target undergraduate schools", and mine is not until Feb. Did I just misinterpret it and miss the deadline already?

I go to a target and on our career website it says that applications for full time analyst positions in IBD and securities are due today. I'm assuming this does not refer to summer intern applications. But I cannot find any mention of the deadline for recruiting summer interns. Does anyone know the deadline

The dates show for this current year..perhaps a typo? Is is there no update/is this program still happening this spring?

Good experience. They work you hard for the week and half - expect to come in at 6 and leave by 9/10pm and weekend too. A lot of talks and desk rotations. You'll be assigned to shadow either salespeople or traders on most desks.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to that write up!
It's a really good program. I recommend it. PM if you have any specific questions.
ny23 you have a PM
I hate to bump two topic in one day but no one ever pulled through with PMs and with articles so I'm back to square one. Who has any more info/experience with the program other than what is on the company page?
I did the London program earlier this year. Not sure if it differs from the NY one, but pm me if you want anymore info
Can students from U.S schools apply to the London programs?

We've posted information on the application process and past experiences from GS securities internship (from 2005-2008 in the US): http://chasingconsultantsbreakingbankers.blogspot.com/
If any of you've been through the program in the US, and are willing to share, let us know if you have additional insights.

Yes, some of my friends in Yale and Princeton have received emails.
harvard hasn't
damn, they've started screening for the NY program? UK deadline was feb 1 so I naively assumed the US deadline would be the same ...

Anything like this for IBD prospects?

Are you guys at targets?

Congrats on Banking Spring Program... jwcaps...
were your questions all fit? or some technicals?
where do you guys go to school?
..
so did anybody hear back yet?
I spoke with someone there.
If you don't get a decision by or on February 11th, you haven't been selected.
Has anybody heard back yet? They told me decision is out early this week, so if I dont hear back by Tuesday then I am rejected?
Got an offer today
Anyone have an idea of what the offer rate for SA was historically for this program?
I imagine there won't be many spots (if any) for this summer (2009), but maybe for the next summer.
A GS spring break program for IBD / IMD is also in the works or was already launched last year. I would apply through GS's website to make sure.

Its months away - will be around December when summer deadlines are
So your saying most deadlines for summer internships at BB's (across all divisions - IBD, S&T, etc.) are around December?
Yes
December-January for most.
In response..I'm looking at http://www2.goldmansachs.com/careers/begin/unique-positions/securities-… and see that the dates listed are:
March 9 - 13, 2009 March 16 - 20, 2009 March 23 - 27, 2009
The dates show for this current year..perhaps a typo? Is is there no update/is this program still happening this spring?
Yes, they have a program for IBD, and it was launched last year.
breakingbankers: They recruit on-campus at a few other places as well, including Georgetown and UT Austin.
I went through the interview process, so feel free to PM me.
