GS Accelerated Interview Invitations

I received an invitation for an accelerated interview at Goldman Sachs. Does anybody from previous years have any insights into the process? The email says that second round interviews in New York City are going to be held next week. I tried searching and nothing relevant came to the surface beyond how interviewees are selected.

Thanks.

Curious as well as to which division? I applied for the ibd one last week but haven't heard back, guess this means all selections have been made?

When did you apply? I received an invitation to apply for accelerated process last Thursday. Haven't heard back yet.

Went through this last year... Went through a phone interview and then two rounds of interviews at their offices in NYC. Got dinged after the final round only to find out from a friend who works there that they were only interviewing people to put on hold in case any of their SA's backed out.

Maybe its different this year, but thats the way it was last year.

That's not true, GS hired people through accelerated interviews last year.

Not sure, but my guess is so they have a pool of candidates ready to go in case they can't fill all the slots with SA's (ie - some SA's may not accept an offer, or may not get offers). Seems like they want to get a head start on the other banks to get the people they want??

FYI, MS is having their superday for accelerated interviews today (for their eight "core" schools only). They are unlikely to have formal full-time recruiting.

When one man, for whatever reason, has an opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself.

They didn't send me an email, but I logged in and found out the decision
its weird. they normally change ur status and send out emails the same time (if successful).

ambition56:
it says received for me too not denied like my aps for last year soo...
if you did not get in the accelerated program, they would automatically put u into the normal recruiting process. so i guess no rejection has been sent.

I mean that my applications from last year were already rejected a long time ago My applications from this year have had the status "application received" since I have applied and they are still that way The accelerated process says it sends out interview invites in the beginning of December... so I was just wondering if anybody else has received an invite so I can access if I did not get an interview invite for this round

I am fairly certain if you are NOT invited to interview, you CAN go to the regular pool in the spring. However, if you ARE invited to interview but are NOT given the offer, you CANNOT reapply in the spring. Sorry about the caps placement, wanted to make it clear...

I am fairly certain if you are NOT invited to interview, you CAN go to the regular pool in the spring. This is true and I have confirmed with HR

However, if you ARE invited to interview but are NOT given the offer, you CANNOT reapply in the spring. Sorry about the caps placement, wanted to make it clear... Not so sure about this... Some of my friends are on "hold" from their accelerated interviews meaning that they've looked at you, ur good enough but they aren't sure if they want you until they look at later accelerated candidates/regular candidates

Nothing yet, at this point. Still wondering if they are planning to interview anyone in late December ... it is approaching Christmas and many people should be taking days off, I assume. Maybe we will be interviewed in Jan?

Application status still shows: Application Received.

ambition 56, good luck with your finals! I finished my first one and three more to come.

I see. Let's wait for a few days more since the email I got from HCM on Dec 2 said we could be contacted by mid-dec the latest. Anyway, I am from a non-target and applied for GSAM and IBD. I wouldn't be too disappointed if not interviewed during Dec.

Freaked out a bit after I got a superday invite for IMD. I listed it as my second choice and was a bit bummed that that's what they chose me for, so Friday I was a bit downcast. I ran into a senior who summered there both sophomore and junior years and got her FT offer in IBD, so I asked her what the different statuses online meant. According to her, when you see "Application received" it means they've accepted it into the database but they have yet to pull it to look over it. "Application Under Review" means they've done exactly that and are in the process of evaluating your candidacy.

See below, pasted it from my page on their careers portal.

2011: Americas; New York; IBD; Summer Analyst Application received 2011: EMEA; London; IBD; Summer Analyst Application Under Review 2011: Americas; New York; IMD; Summer Analyst Interview scheduled 2011: Americas; Philadelphia; IMD; Summer Analyst Application received

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

hey when did you submit your apps? cause mine still all says app received

A Posse Ad Esse, I am in a non-target in New York. School is in downtown. If you can take a guess... Finished my last mid-term last Wednesday, first final last Thursday. I will have a final presentation on Monday, two cumulative exams on Wednesday and Thursday and one more cumulative next Monday.

Good luck with all your finals and interviews! :)

i've lost all hope already people have heard back last thursday and friday i dont think they would reach out to us 2 days before the interview

damn didn't know people heard back last thursday and friday already. I guess hope is gone!

ambition56:
for those of you who haven't heard back for AP3 yet, does it say as your status on the recruiting website "application received" instead of "application under review"?

I dont think app status matters. i got a phone interview in hk office but status still says app received.

nay, there is no hope. just got an email from HR saying at this point, all the AP invitations have been sent out and my application will be considered in the normal recruiting time line

Application Submitted simply means the computerized system is confirming successful receipt of your app. Under Review means someone has pulled it to look over it. It doesn't guarantee anything, nor does it necessarily reflect an immediate change. It may have been from before.

At this point, if they're pulling it, chances are it's for normal timeframe recruiting, not accelerated.

You interview and then you wait. Its very stressful. A bunch of college students sitting in the Goldman lobby with their phones in their hands. Goldman calls you to say either you are moving on to 2nd round or they ding you. So sad to see other students leave with their dreams crushed.

Thanks for the input.

In response to the first reply, Goldman has had an accelerated process for SA in previous years as well. There was an accelerated process for anyone and a studying abroad accelerated process. Our school (a semi-target) was given the option to apply to the process.

For other posters, what was the first half of the day like? Type of questions, interview structure? What was the second half like? Type of questions, interview structure?

Thanks for the help.

Good luck - hope you are all done with this crap before Thanksgiving!

Naw, still waiting too. Apparently for the accelerated process for every bank they don't feel as though they need to rush a decision b/c they aren't competing against other banks as much. It legitimately could be a full week until you get a call back one way or the other.

ah okay this is slightly positive news. I talked to two other people who still haven't heard back yet as well. I was just confused because I was under the impressive at GS lets you know immediately if you get it or not. I guess we'll know soon either way though

I'm not really sure. They said they couldn't extend me an offer "at this time", and then they thanked me for coming up. I think it's someone different for sophomores though because they take like 0 or 1 out of the 4 to 5 people they flew out.

Definitely. From my understanding, GS isn't really doing full-time on campus recruiting. They warned me to apply to not only them, but to other bulge brackets during the accelerated processes because there would be very little chance of landing a spot during on campus recruiting at a bulge bracket this summer regardless of your qualifications. Even the accelerated interview offers at GS were contingent on offer acceptances from their existing summer analyst classes.

This terrifies me

ambition56:
which round did you apply for the one with early december interview notifications and mid december interviews?
That would be the Accelerated 3 deadline, AP3.

So far I've only received an email from HCM that "to the extent there is interest in your candidancy, you will be contacted in Mid-Dec, the lastest."
It seems not everyone who applied for SAP3 received such an email.

To be more clear. If you guys had the option to do the accelerated superday or the regular one in the spring, which would you pick? Essentially, which one gives you a better shot.
