How Do You Impress Someone in the Business World?
Hey guys, my business fraternity rush begins this week and as passionate as I am about finance, I've never been in a position where I talk about it with other business majors. I assume many of you who have jobs are very capable of socializing in an adult setting, but, being only 18, I do not have much experience. Do you guys have any pointers as to how I can make myself more impressive/likable?
Thanks.
Depending on the school's chapter and business fraternity, they might be looking for different things. For the fraternities in the schools known to party, they are looking for people who they can party and have fun with. For the more serious chapters, they are looking for people who have a professional interest in business.
make money. do something that makes a difference.
Don't try and impress them or even really talk about business. Just be humble and likable. You are a young kid, you want to work in business, finance specifically, and want to meet a group of like-minded people. This doesn't really sound like an "adult setting" if it is attended primarily/exclusively by college students (kids). It is extremely unlikely you are the most nervous/shy/awkward person there, even if it feels like it.
Making a Good First Impression (Originally Posted: 09/23/2006)
I come from a non-target school none of you have ever heard of. Because of this I was surprise to find out BofA will be coming to my school and presenting on their IB Analyst opportunities for Commercial RE. This is the first and probably last time they will be on my campus so making a good first impression is pivotal for me. I was hoping you existing and future IBers could give me advice of what I could do to maximize this opportunity. Thanks in advance for any input.
be confident, show plenty of interest in IB, ask some questions that demonstrate your passion and your insight into the current market.
also dress up, business suit, tie, shoes the whole 10 yards.
Good Impression, Stand-out, Look Intelligent? (Originally Posted: 10/25/2010)
Hey gurus. I need some help. My school is going to visit some companies next week hosted by the alumni's. And, we have been told by the people in school to ask good questions, act intelligent and etc. So, how do you define a "good question?" What are some questions that i should ask to leave a good impression?
My school did something similar to this. Just ask sensible questions that you can formulate on the spot but having done your research about the company/shop beforehand. The key to these visits is to make yourself slightly more memorable than your peers in some way and then make sure to follow up with a thank you email asking them to keep in touch and if you can reach out for further advice. Then try and schedule another one on one visit/coffee/lunches in the future and keep them in the loop about your developments. Since they are alumni you'll have a lot of room to shoot the shit about campus, dorms, classes etc. This is how I went about it and managed to get some good leads. Stay cool, stay confident, be yourself
what type of companies? f500?
Need help on making a great first impression ! (Originally Posted: 11/11/2014)
I'm currently a junior at a non-target still seeking a summer internship. This weekend an MD from a BB bank will be coming to my school to speak to us. He's the head of global fundamental credit research and I really want to make a great impression. I wanted to know if anyone had any advice to offer me to help me standout such as examples of intelligent questions to ask etc.
Thank you guys !
