Good mock trading platforms?
SBs available for suggestions of good mock trading platforms.
Looking for a "closed" platform that allows pre-defined "markets", with trading limited to invited participants, and possibly noise traders. Something like the Rotman platform, but hopefully something free (though cheap is fine). Preferably, platform allows for algo trading as well. Any thoughts?
May not meet your criteria, but I traded on updown.com for a bit. Nothing flashy, but allows for advanced orders and such. The community is half dead, but there are some hardcore sim traders on there who still write analysis and such.
Thanks for the suggestion, will look into it. Anyone else with any thoughts?
Thank you for the suggestion. However, I don't think I made it clear what I am looking for. I am interested in something that has no connection to the actual markets. I want to be able to create a "security" and have incited participants trade it (for example, celtics winning playoffs, or getting into playoffs), and to have the system be self-contained - changes in price are based on actions of invited participants. Thanks for the suggestions though, I will look into them to see if they do that.

Mock Trading - Running automated systems (Originally Posted: 12/25/2012)
I wanna try building and running some automated trading systems. But I don't wanna risk my money, is there a good, free platform that I can test my stuff on?
Thanks
Metatrader brings you the oportunity to do exactly what you want. It's free, its language is very intuituve and many retail brokers offer it with their demo account.
Heard good things about interactive brokers
Take a look at ninjatrader. I have used it and I think it's your best free option.
Quantopian.com has tons of resources, forums, and models to work off of.
It based on various things like how much trading you will be doing and how user friendly you need the trading platform to be.
Best free mock/virtual trading sites? (Originally Posted: 11/25/2017)
I spent my summer managing a portfolio at Bloomberg on the terminal and was wondering if there is a go-to website for virtual trading. I'd like to start my own portfolio of something like $10-50M and see what I can do with that in the course of about a year. What websites are the best and keep up with the markets to the minute?
I may be willing to pay for something if it's really worth it.
Edit: I literally have zero knowledge of where to go to do online virtual trading. I've only used the terminal!
Hi Dr Joe, any of these threads helpful:
More suggestions...
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
It's hard to find a good virtual trading service that's free and offers a wide range of products to trade. I'd recommend NinjaTrader's free paper account. If you want to go paid ($15/month), I'd recommend StockTrak.
Interactive Brokers demo account.
