The Today Show did a segment on this today as well, except they looked Huntsman Sr.'s $50 million dollar home in Park City. It's funny seeing the contrast between the GOP contenders and Ron Paul, even in the homes they live in.

The turely sickening part of all of this is that America seems to hate success now. Its evil to be wealthy.

+1. We used to laud self-made men. Now we decry their success and clamor for "wealth redistribution."

It's not evil to be wealthy, but it's evil to go into politics to GET wealthy. I personally think politicians should be peasants who live off a modest salary. They are after all, servants to us.

Could always just make sure they have normal jobs (i.e. lawyers, physicians, accountants, IBankers, PE folks) and just do two or three terms max?

This is slightly off topic, as it isn't about a 'self-made man'...however, I was reading a Yahoo! article about Elin Woods tearing down a house she just paid $12mm for. Of course the comment section ran wild with remarks about what a greedy bitch she was and that she's so selfish that a $12mm house isn't good enough for etc. One of the posters talked about her greed and how, at the very least, she could have donated the building materials to Habitat for Humanity but instead she just demolished the whole structure.

Come to find out the house was actually infested with termites and was reported to be structurally unsound, therefor she had to tear it down. This home is located in Florida...a place notorious for termites...and was built in like the 1920s...so exceptionally old. In addition to the termite news, it's was also reported that she allowed Habitat for Humanity 30 days to come and take whatever they could from the home that could be reused in their projects.

Suddenly the same people that were chastising her for her greed were now spouting off about a cover-up by her PR people since she was receiving bad press for the demolition. It's plain to see that many people nowadays just don't want others to be happy. We used to be a nation that looked at wealthy people and said, I can't wait until I'm wealthy, but now we are a nation of people that look at the wealthy and say, I'm not wealthy because you are...and it's not fair.

I realize that this isn't the best example, as Elin isn't really 'self-made' however, it does portray how we've become a zero-sum nation and it disgusts me.

Regards

If America hates success, they should love Ron Paul. A physician living in such a house...feh. Now if America likes good taste, Gov./Ambassador Huntsman is the man for the job. (And if you like hot presidential daughters, except for one of the three, he's a good call, natch.)
