Gores Group Operations Team (LA PE) (Originally Posted: 06/30/2014)
What I've heard this team: - Gores consists of two main teams: M&A team + Operations team - More diligence-focused than typical operations teams - Spend non-diligence time as operators of the portfolio companies - No financial modeling required
Questions for the group: - How good is the deal flow at Gores? - What's the team like? - Are the Operations guys really on equal footing with the M&A guys or are they treated like second-class citizens (like most PE shops)? - Any ideas on exit opps from this position? (no data points on LinkedIn to be found)
Thanks.
Obviously a strong MM firm, but cannot respect Alec after Tom banged his wife and he keeps trying to patch things up over deals.
Gores Group in LA (Originally Posted: 03/07/2015)
Just received an email from their recruiter about starting their process this upcoming week. I have searched on the forum but haven't seen much recent commentary on the group.
Any insight on culture, street cred in LA, recent fund performance, comp, etc.
This story is funny every time I hear it, no matter from whom.
One of the best stories in finance IMO.
Operations guys are never the same as Investment guys. This is PE - that's just the way it's going to be. As for Gores, check the news and ask around - well known that a lot of their senior guys have left already and that group is a shell of what it used to be. Just do your diligence.
Gores has a reputation for a pretty toxic culture generally.
"bloody good" aye?
Being based in the LA area, I can confirm petergibbons. They got a new office space and generally are seen as Platinum Equity's less successful sibling
Much of that is related to Alec's vagina.
Bout that time, eh chaps?
just raised a new $2b fund i believe. similar to Platinum Equity (gores brothers hate each other supposedly) in that they like hairy situations and turning them around. i assume they've done very well for themselves given their recent fundraising success.
Alec and Tom seem to have made amends. Alec and Tom co-founded the Gores Group, I believe. Don't quote me on that, though. In 2000, Alec divorced his wife after he found out she had been sleeping around with Tom. Naturally, Alec and Tom beefed. Tom ran off and founded Platinum Equity, which competes in Gores' space.
Both are top notch PE firms in LA.
Where'd you get that from?
