Got invited to meet more people and get dinner after superday.
I'm a senior that just interviewed at an Asset Management firm in Chicago two weeks ago. Today, one of the vice presidents emailed me asking to see if I was free Monday to meet two more people and maybe grab dinner afterwards.
You guys know if this is common after having a superday?
I have never heard of this, but it probably means that they are deciding between you and one or two other candidates. There are probably two senior people who disagree over whom to give the offer to, so they are doing this as opposed to doing another round of interviews.
...
Yeah i disagree with Sil here. IMO they are going to offer you the job, just want to make sure they let the big guys meet you first.
Fair enough, guys. I just wanted to point that out since it's important to treat this as another interview. I was at a firm before than did this, and they were indeed considering multiple people. Good luck, OP.
Even if they aren't considering other people, they still are not totally sure about you. Act accordingly.
To play devil's advocate, maybe there is something so weird about you that none of the other partners believed it to be true. So they are inviting you out to prove it to them. But probably not. Just don't get drunk.
I think this is 100% a good sign. Order something similar to your hosts that isn't messy(if you go first, ask the waiter for a recommendation and then order that), only drink if others drink and stick to 1-2 (depending on your tolerance and aptitude to not be a moron), don't only talk about business, and use proper manners (youtube search if you were raised by wolves).
I work in the lower MM and therefore my firms have been relatively small and with a less structured hiring/recruiting process and we almost always do this, even for entry level people because fit is really important. And from what I understand a decent amount of AM firms work in pretty small teams even if the overall firm is larger (maybe not planet wreckers like Fido though) and have less formal and regular recruiting like BB's do so it may be similar. This could mean anything but like most of the previous posts I'd lean towards it being about meeting two more senior people and a final fit interview in a different setting with dinner. Truthfully, I'm not going to take a college kid (or really anyone) out to dinner if I'm not almost certainly hiring them, meaning I'm not taking a few of them out individually and deciding based on dinner conversation and etiquette (although if someone got shitfaced, drooled on themselves and slapped the waitress' ass I'd probably ding them and thank the Old Grey Guy in the Clouds that I took them to dinner).
Be prepared and don't take it lightly but as long as you don't fuck it up (don't drink too much-nurse one or two non-martini type of drinks) I'd think it's a positive. Of course, like REPEAcquisitions it could just be the third nipple you have on your forehead... Good luck.
You mean it's not like...
"Son, I was going to hire you already, but the sexual aggression and casual chauvinism you displayed at dinner tonight convinced me you deserve a signing bonus. You are exactly the type of go-getter I want on my team and I'm thoroughly impressed by how you managed that ASSet." wink
Only if he got shitfaced, drooled, slapped her ass and then took her home and performed acts of carnality that are illegal in most Southern States. That's an alpha baller I want on my team.
So I went to the interview and I met a couple more people. It was a pretty relaxed conversation. More about them selling the company and answering my question. Then the two senior guys took me out to dinner and extended me an offer.
Congrats.
Congratulations!
