got my RESUME passed in, now what?

I talked to a distant family friend who agreed to pass on my resume in this BB that my school isnt targeted at. I didnt even apply through the online app but I've already gotten an email from human resources saying that my resume has been received (I clearly didnt send it so it must have been him).

My school is a semi-target but just not being recruited by this bank. Im wondering does the fact that the friend passed along my resume mean anything? Does it mean that I'm in the running with all the other guys at targets or am I still in the "blackbox" that everyone who applies online get thrown into? Because dont all those blackbox apps get sent to the hr recruiter anyways?

Im just wondering what the next step is? Is it a good or bad sign that the hr just sent an formed email saying "we got your resume, now chill out and we'll call you if necessary"?

thanks

Banks always treat resumes from target schools as higher priorities than ones from non-targets. While we do look at resumes from non-targets, typically it's only if we're short on recruits from targets for some reason.

You should be very proactive about the process and find ways to contact your family friend and ask him about. Get him to push for you. If you have an advocate on the inside it's a lot easier to get in.

Otherwise you may end up getting ignored just because of the volume of applicants and how they prioritize.

i am in a similar situation..i got an email as well...i had mine referred through an associate first...but now im trying to get the managing directors and the head of investment banking involved as well as they are known to my father...do i stand a better chance? this is at a bulge bracket by the way...and i go to a non target as well...and also one of the MDs is in the global recruiting committee so I'm assuming that works to my advantage??

If your dad is friends with the head of investment banking and you are asking if that will help you, you are retarded. It doesn't get much better than that.

PLEASE DONT CHANGE EXCEL SHORTCUTS!!!
