GPA requirments/summer networking

I just finished my sophomore year at at a midrange target school (think Duke, Vanderbilt, Michigan type schools) and I am would like to get a solid consulting internship for next summer. I am majoring in mechanical engineering and double minoring in finance and mathematics, but only have a 3.3 GPA after my first two years. I got killed by some prerecs but my mechE gpa is 3.7 and my finance gpa is also 3.7. I have had 2 very solid internships at large companies and have started my own business that had a 30k revenue last year. So basically I have 3 questions:

  1. Will my GPA hurt me too much to get a job at MBB, Deloitte, Accenture, ect?
  2. If so, how can I network early (like this summer) to help make up for the lower GPA.
  3. Can I write Mechanical Engineering: 3.7, Finance 3.7 and leave off my overall GPA from my resume?

  1. Yes at MBB - those firms are much more selective and (based on my experience at another non-Harvard/Wharton-tier) tend to look specifically for 3.8+ GPAs. Deloitte and Accenture much more forgiving on the GPA front, especially with some networking, and 3.3 is okay. 2, Not sure what you're looking for here on how to network. You just reach out to alumni/professionals who work at those firms and ask for phone calls/coffee chats.
  2. You can and certainly include the major-specific GPAs. Okay to leave off cumulative from resume (I personally dislike it but have seen it recommended before) - but all these larger firms have online portals where you'll have to input your official cumulative GPA anyways. Plus, it'll be assumed to be pretty bad if left off so maybe don't leave that up to their imaginations. Again, have seen people get jobs at Deloitte/Accenture with GPAs in similar range so wouldn't sweat that too much.

My friend got a McK interview with a 3.3. Its possible but very difficult. In his case, he heard back very last about his interview and had already received recommendations from a partner and two BA's.

With big 4, assuming you're at a target, its easier to get an interview with a 3.3 but the networking also has to be on point and even with good internships, activities, and connections the best you can hope for is about 50% of interviews.

This is all based off my experience at a target school (US NEWS 10 - 15).
