Graduating A Semester Late?

Hello all.

I am currently in a non-target school (Baruch College) where I am pursuing accounting with a strong passion for the financial markets. I am in the honors program here, with a stipend of 7500 to study abroad that I haven't used yet.

After having an internship at a bank (mid sized), I realized that I truly do want to do investment banking. However, this requires me to switch my major from accounting to finance.

While I am willing to do this, I have a small dilemma with my graduation date.

If I stack up all the required classes (5 classes per semester, with 2-3 finance courses per semester) I will be able to graduate on time, but feel that I will not have enough time to network and maintain my GPA. I currently have a 4.0 in accounting if that information will help you give me advice.

I can also spread my classes a little smoother, which would allow me to network and maintain my GPA, but I will graduate a semester late. Instead of Spring 2018, it will be Fall 2018.

Will graduating a semester late negatively impact my overall "brand"/"image" as I search for an internship/career?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I do not believe that you need a Finance/Accounting major to get into banking. I am a bio major and got my foot in the door through off cycle unpaid internships. My current VP is a bio major as well and I know a few others that are CS majors. Just demonstrate that you want to do banking through internships and other extracurriculars.

If you do take an extra quarter, you can recruit this cycle as a Junior and apply to summer programs which are easier to get into than full time.
