Career Resources
I would go for Barclays IBD SA. Better exit opps and higher conversion rate.
If you want to go to a hedge fund later on in your career GS research will be more beneficial......PE go with IBD......I would choose GS research, but that is just because my goal is to go to a HF. GS-Better name, similar pay, more analytical, and slightly better lifestyle.
research is not similar pay, ask anyone there
It is in the first couple of years. As in some banks pay research analysts the same as IBD analysts, and others might pay research $100K all-in and IBD $120K all-in.
The big differences start as you move up the ladder. Research does give good exit-opps into HFs, and IBD into PE.
the kids I know in gs research are being paid the same as banking analysts at other BB's

do a search and you can see for yourself...research associates get paid just as much as IBD analysts
At junior levels you make about the same amount, though in my opinion IBD should make more (more value)
Exit opps from research are less clearcut - more options but less guaranteed/structured routes, and you have to teach yourself key skills like LBO modelling
Honestly though being in an industry IBD role and an ER research role, there aren't that many differences - though I guess BarCap industry groups do their own M&A
