GS Spring Internship for Sophomores

http://www2.goldmansachs.com/careers/begin/unique…

Hi all, i'm new here. nice to meet yall.
has anyone heard about this program?
it says top performers will receive offer for summer analyst program. is that for the securities division? can i choose IBD instead?

And, I go to USC. whats my chance in getting these internships for gs?

Thanks

nope only securities. You have a seriously small chance coming from USC though. I do not think I know of 1 kid in the SA class from there (though there may be a few). All the spring kids came from NYU, WHarton, Harvard, Princeton, and a few scattered

But don't they want to be diversed in terms of geography. i mean usc is one of the best business schools(i might be biased) in west coast. I really hope my contact in GS would help. McGyver, were you in that program? if yes, wts it like? thanks

No I was not but I do know the kids who were (I already had my offer). They said it was mainly observing but then there was one project that they had you do. If I remember correctly, it was some analysis on a the desk coverage area or a pitch or something small like that. It is only a week. Any time with GS traders is a good experience but it is only 5 days.

Oh and about USC being "one of the best" business schools, it may be true on the west coast but it really is insignificant in terms of bank recruiting despite what anyone tells you. At GS, the biggest schools in order (if I remember correctly) are Wharton, Harvard, *Princeton , NYU, *Duke, Columbia, and so on (Duke and princeton might be switch but NYU is #4 for sure and Harvard #2 with Wharton at #1 for firmwide SA positions). Stanford was like #10 and it is leagues above USC so that just gives you an idea. I am sure these are not the exact same demographics for all banks but they are somewhat representative of the distribution. And please to anyone who is going to write something stupid like "oh well this list is BS etc etc.." don't talk because I know more than you about it, case closed. That said, I think you do have a chance if you are smart enough at getting an internship because there are always kids from no name schools like UT or Texas-San Antonio (and even Howard) that get in, though some of it is clearly for diversity recruiting, though not all, obviously.

When I did it I don't think I heard back this early. Also, how did you manage not to get all the relevant contact info and not send your interviewer a thank you. If I were that interviewer, that right there would be enough for me to reject you.

Just had this interview last week. My advise is be yourself. You'll be fine. I was called the next day upon my acceptance to the program, which I am extremely thrilled about it and cannot believe that it happened.

Do you know if this program is actually competitive? Isn't it exciting how the TOP/STRONG performers get summer offers? I'm wondering on the stats of that.

Yes, the program seems amazing and I hope to be as lucky as you. So there are no second rounds? Also, who gave you the interview - HR or someone else, and was the interview mostly fit? Many thanks.

Just so you know, 15ppl per round are accepted so it's not highly highly impossibly competitive lol (still pretty tight though)...So total of 45 ppl are accepted. I just hope more than half get the internship and not just like 2 out of 45 lol..

hey I had my interview with them last tuesday, my was a phone interview since they dont come to my campus, do you think they have filled all 45 slots if I havent heard anythign yet? Did u feel like you nailed the interview by the wya?

They visit several targets for on campus recruiting. After these interviews, people hear back within 2 days.

The number of non-targets they take likely depends on the number of qualified people at targets. They are probably waiting for target recruiting to finish before notifying you.
