H1B issue

So, I am recently interviewed with a bank for full time position. During the interview, the interviewer asked me if I need Visa sponsorship. As an international student, I said yes, but I can use OPT for the next one year. The interviewer then mentioned he need to go back and check w/ the legal team. I understand that H1B cap is full for this year (2013).

But could this be a reason bank does not hire me?

I thought big banks should always be able to come up with a solution for small issues like this. plus I can use my opt if they can't sponsor me the H1b.

Could you give more detail on the bank you are interviewing with?

Yes, the H1B cap is full for 2013, and in that sense the bank wouldn't be able to sponsor an H1B visa. However you did mention that you have OPT of 1 year, which would give you more than enough time to apply for one by April 1 in 2014, while working FT. You should keep communicating with the HR office of the bank you are interviewing with (assuming it's a boutique/MM)

If you are interviewing with a BB, it's possible they may offer you a relocation to either London or HK if a visa isn't possible. No need to be frustrated with the interviewer though, he/she just may not be aware of how the working visa works for international students but it's definitely necessary on your part to keep following up and maintain communications with HR.

Hi, Thanks a lot for the input! The bank I am interviewing is a BB. However, granted that H1B cap is full for 2013 (i.e. there is zero chance they can still give me one for this year), how likely is it that they will relocate me? Put it in another way, why would people be relocated since they can always get an OPT and use it for one year?
