First Round Interview at Five Rings Capital LLC?
Hi. I'm a junior and received a first round 20-30min phone screening trading interview at Five Rings Capital LLC for their summer internship. Can anyone give me some insight as to how the interview might go? The founder is from Jane Street Capital I believe, so I wonder if the interview will be as hard as I've heard Jane Street interviews are.
Thanks a lot!

Five Rings is a proprietary trading firm that prides itself on an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment. Our users shared that this is a great place to work and that the interview questions are highly technical.
I had an in-person with them through my school for their summer internship, and it was entirely technical. They legitimately didn't ask anything else. Very similar to a Jane Street interview, but possibly more technical.
I went through the whole interview process for FT.It is exactly like a JSC interview in terms of technical questions. there are many JSC questions, so look them up there. They also ask some personal questions as well, like why you want to do trading, etc.
To give u background, it is created by Jason McCarthy, an Ex-Partner at JSC, and they have around ~10-20 employees.
I have great respect for the firm and I think they are a great group to be part of.
No market questions, almost no prop shops will ask u about market questions.

User @daikonhead" shared details about compensation for internships:
Just got an offer, and since this question wasn't answered, I wanted to let y'all know that for a programming internship, compensation is indeed $2000 per week.

basic questions, but to really nail the interview, make sure to do your best smeagol impression
I literally LOL'ed when I read this.
sometimes PiperJaffrayChiang hits it with a zinger. hats off to you
Five Rings is a book on strategy by possibly the best samurai ever. Not a LOTR reference.
lol okay. I'm still looking for serious responses. Five Rings Capital is a prop shop started by a former MIT grad who left Jane Street. They're paying $2k/week for the summer internship, so spots should be competitive.
I'd be interested in learning more about this firm. How do you know what their weekly compensation to interns is? Have you worked for them before?
I had an in-person with them through my school for their summer internship, and it was entirely technical. They legitimately didn't ask anything else. Very similar to a Jane Street interview, but possibly more technical.
What kind of technical questions did they ask you in the interview ? Was it more probability-oriented or market-oriented (i.e. Basic options theory, etc) ?
Thanks.
I don't think it's market-oriented. It'll probably be a bunch of probability related questions.
i went through the whole interview process for FT.

Thanks alot for the responses Zalfor and lightforce2! May I ask if during the first round phone screening, you were asked those personal questions? I always thought it would be 30 minutes of nothing but technical questions, and then personal questions come up in the later rounds.
They gave out their compensation info on their internship page. There were zero fit questions in the 1st round.
Did you manage to learn anything interesting about the firm through the interview? Something more than what is on their website? Because 200K first year sounds like a sweet deal.
lol where did you get 200k from?
These numbers don't make sense. Can anyone with information on their comp please explain here. Firm seems like an interesting place. How did their interview go?
Ok. For internships someone previously said its 2K/week, or 100K annualized. For full time, it is 100K base, and then factoring in a bonus of 100K (upper end), its 200K in total. I've heard all information second hand, so take it with a grain of salt.
I'll let you know how my experience turns out after interviewing. Those numbers seem unreliable to me, but not necessarily inaccurate.
So I stumbled upon this thread back in February when I had an interview with Five Rings. Just got an offer, and since this question wasn't answered, I wanted to let y'all know that for a programming internship, compensation is indeed $2000 per week.
These #s seem a little high. I've heard 100k base (slightly rounded up, more like 90ish) but the 100K bonus is unheard of. I could be wrong but I had thought it to be around 30K.
I could be wrong-so someone with more concrete info feel free to chime in.
Anyway OP I went through the whole interview process. Very similar to JSC. PM me for details if you want
I'm currently prepping for a second round interview with Five Rings and looking for advice. Solb22 would you mind PM'ing me? I'd like to reach out to you but I don't have enough banana points.
Hi Michael and Solb22, Can you guys please PM me. I am looking for some advice, and I would really appreciate any help.
Regards, M
Hi Michael and solb22 I would love to hear about experience as well as I just go done with my first round for internship.
Jaswinder-Singh1 how was the first round screening? When you guys say probability questions, what type of question would they be asking specifically? Does that mean conditional probability? Or is it related to a statistical plot? Or is a counting question?

I have a phone interview with Five Rings capital. Anyone have any experience interviewing with this firm, who can guide me?
Your not going to get much response here on this firm. The only thing i know is that the guy who started it was from Jane Street and went to MIT.
ask them how much smeagol is up in the market
I had many interviews with them, and ultimately a job offer which didn't work out. I'm not going to say the questions (although I know them well). Practice math questions, probability, bayes theorem, etc. Look at Jane Street problems.
why did it not work out with them?
Hi can you please PM me, I don't think I have enough banana points to pm you. Anyone else with typs on their interview process please do reach out to me. I have a 1st round phone screening with them tomorrow.
pm sent
I am also wondering why it didn't work out. Thanks.

Does anybody know how five rings does interviews? I have a first round interview for summer internship with them. I heard the questions they ask are similar to Jane Street, but is their recruitment process the same? (5 phone screens then a final round interview at the office). Somebody I know who got an offer for a winter internship said he only had 2 interviews, I wonder if its the same for summer.
I interviewed there over 1.5 years ago. It was just 30 minutes of brainteasers and math/stats problems. I ended up accepting a job somewhere else so I never went through with the second round interview.
