Hedge Fund SA- How to recruit for FT?

Hi Monkeys,

I will be a SA at a top 50 hedge fund in NYC this year. I am a rising senior, and everyone I have talked to (mostly hedge fund alumni) has highly encouraged me to get my first job at a bank to build broader experience.

Last fall I recruited for banking/ S&T SA and did not get any interviews.
I have ~3.3 GPA in econ from a non-target, and prior work experience was in asset mgmt. My school has basically 1 alumnus at every bank, and I am in touch with them, but it doesn't provide much of a broad base for networking.

As a non-target student, what can I do to give myself a chance at a FT spot at a bank? I'm not picky, MM would be fine, S&T would be fine, but my understanding is that I basically need this in order to have a shot at a longer term career. Would you expect someone with my background to be able to find a FT slot assuming plenty of networking?

Thanks for your help.
