Hello from Miami

Hi all!

My Name is Ryan Morrison a junior at Florida International University studying finance. I am from South Africa and go back as often as I can.
After completing a project in one of my accounting classes I got interested in capital markets, that was just a few months ago. I have also completed a 7 month internship at a finance firm where everything was run on excel. I am now actively looking to secure an internship for the summer of 2015 in an investment bank. I am particularly interested to work in a coverage group in the consumer goods or services sector. I find restructuring interesting as well.
I have just joined WSO, heard a lot of great things about this site. I hope to learn a lot more through this site and maybe lend a helping hand to anybody that needs it.

Thanks

Don't go to FIU but have plenty of friends who do. Due to the fact that FIU is a super non-target you have an uphill battle. That being said, it is by no means impossible.I have met, and I have heard through friends, of a few FIU students who make it to the BB's. Your best bet is to get involed with the students orginzations on campus, especially ALPFA and Phoenician fund as these are two that will give you the most exposure to what you are interested. I have heard that BETA is good over there too, but they are more Acct. oriented. Obviously the key is to network your butt off, and be able to land a few interviews in hope of landing one. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I have joined Phoenician, the group provide really good info on IB and what is expected. Many of the senior members have completed summer internships at BBs, so its not impossible. I had a phone interview with JP Morgan in the week. Waiting to hear back.

How did it go?

I did not make it. I felt the interviews went really well, I was confident and told my story. Oh well, that is not going to stop me. I did however get some great feed back from the interviewers after I sent a thank you email.
