High School Entrepreneurs

Hi Monkeys,

I'm part of a group of student entrepreneurs from The Montessori High School at University Circle. At Montessori High School, every year the school has two week periods called x-terms. These are student planned, organized, and funded projects. Everything is up to the student. The idea behind it is to encourage experiential learning. So far, we have raised over $30,000 to fund these experimental learning terms. This year, we are trying to do it again. We'll be spending one week here in Cleveland, working on internal projects and ideas for personal business ventures, then traveling to Chicago to meet with leading professionals to help us bring our ideas to life.

I'd love for any support you could offer. Purchasing raffle tickets, product donations for our raffle, etc. are just some of the ways. We're also looking for any firms based out of Chicago to visit. In the past, we visited Union Square Ventures, which was a great experience that I'd love for other students to be able to have.

Interesting concept - impressive initiative. Why Chicago? If you want to get involved in an active startup ecosystem, that's definitely not the right city to visit. If you want to visit financial firms, there's Citadel, some prop trading shops, and your larger/MM investment banks.

In terms of private equity/venture capital, not too familiar with the area but there's Lightbank, Adams Street, Chicago Growth, Madison Dearborn, GTCR...can't think of any more. And I can't think of any great startups in Chicago, although I'm sure there's a bunch - ask around.
