HL, Lazard Middle Market, or Jefferies
Thinking about taking a summer analyst position at these firms, outside of culture. In terms of deals and reputation, how does the street compare these three firms?

Lazard MM is the clear last in my opinion. Return offer % from their SA class this year was pretty bad apparently as well.
Agreed, avoid Lazard MM.
Why Lazard MM needs to be avoided? Have always felt curious about Lazard and Lazard MM.
Lazard and Lazard MM should not be mentioned together, imo. essentially a whole different firm with diff culture, types of deals you'd work on, exit opps, etc.
Are the exit ops that drastically different?
Yes, by a wide margin.
Ok whoever hit me with MS has no idea what they're talking about. Lazard MM's and Lazard's exit opps are absolutely in different tiers. It's like if Evercore acquired Piper and called it Evercore MM and then asking if Evercore MM has the same exit ops as Evercore. Absolutely not.
could you tell me what's the culture at LMM like?
Just curious, do you have a ballpark range in terms of percentages?
which teams?
Location / teams?
Agree with above that Lazard MM isn't even in the running with the other two offers.
HL will be in Texas doing energy and Jefferies will be in NY.
Hold on a sec. There are 3 Energy teams for HL in Texas. Services are in Dallas, Restructuring is in Dallas, and AD is in Houston. (also energy valuation is in Houston, but I hope your not getting that confused with IB.
Also Jefferies has a Dallas team and a Houston team.
HL and Jefferies have about the same rep imo. To me it would come down to where you want to live and if you want to be in Energy (or RX) or whatevetr gorup in Jefferies youd be in.
Location? Comes down to teams between HL and JEF - go for JEF if HC or TMT
Houlihan would be in Houston/Dallas for energy and Jefferies in NYC. How do these teams compare for exit opps?
There is no decision to be made other than Jefferies NYC. Highest career optionality of the 3 in the best location.
Is this Laz MM in NYC or in Houston?
It is in neither NY or Houston. It's in a smaller office.
In that case, I would bet Jefferies NYC will give you better traditional exit ops, if that's your main consideration. It ultimately depends what you want to do long term though.
Jeffries hands down unless you want to do energy/live in Texas.
HL or Laz. MM
Do Jeffries NYC, HL energy isn't very strong and is definitely non-core.
LAZ MM is a lower MM focused shop vs. LAZ. They share the same Lazard name but that's about it. Completely different. JEF is the clear choice here.
Jefferies NYC 100%
1 HL
2 Jefferies
3 Lazard MM
but if you think you can leverage Lazard MM and network into Lazard for FT then it is #1, but given the uncertainty go with HL.
Most others will say Jefferies, but I'm long HL and like what they're doing as a shop.
