Hour Tracker

For the benefit of those looking at the industry from the outside I want to run this little survey.

From 31 October 2010 can people post their hours for each day of the week - also state location, bank (genre if not name), team, pitching / execution, rank

As an example I will give you my day today (30 Oct 2010):

11am - 12am, London, BB, Energy, Pitch, Senior Associate

Today: 0 hours, Boston, MM PE, Associate Tomorrow: 0 hours

Aggregate hours this past week: 45 (excluding travel time)

dublin:
CompBanker, is that typical for PE? Or for MM PE specifically?

I haven't looked into PE too much at this point, but my impression was that the hours are only marginally better than IB...

Nope -- exceptionally slow week. Probably anywhere between 50 - 70 is more typical. No weekends is typical though.

I actually keep a spreadsheet for how many hours I work each day. I started in the beginning of September, and so far my range of weekly hours have been between 71 and 104.

As for last week, here is what it looked like: Monday: 8-10:30 Tuesday: 8-12:30 Wednesday: 8-1:30 Thursday: 8-9:30 Friday: 7:15-6:45 Saturday: 2-4 Sunday: Will have to go in for a few hours

Analyst at BB in Houston. Fairly average to below-average week by hours.

I thought Houston bankers were supposed to have a little bit better hours than NY. Are these hours (71-104/wk) pretty standard?

I would say moreso around 80 is standard-that's how much everyone was having last summer when I was an intern. However, we have been crushed the past couple of months. And too be honest, there are some other BBs in Houston that have it much worse.

This Weekend: 0 hours, Boston, MM PE (I guess it'd be classified as such), associate

This past week (which has been my slowest in about 10 weeks) - Monday: 8am to 5pm: in NYC for ratings agency meetings, back to Boston - Tues through Thurs: 7:45am until 7pm: quarterly reporting for portfolio companies, financing presentation / discussion. - Friday: 8:15am until 5pm: Same as above.

As mentioned above, this past week was probably the lightest it's been in awhile.

Tier 2, you in M&A ? also if ur studying for sth like the CFA, can you do it on such hours ? and more importantly are you working on a deal this week, your hours suggest so....
