Analyst Training Housing

If you are going to be working in an office in a location other then where the summer training will take place, will the firm pay for you to stay in corporate housing while you are training or are you on your own to find a place for a couple of months. I.E. you are going to work in San Francisco, but all of the new analyst class will be doing their training in New York

If you are a full-time in a regional office doing your trianing in NY, they will either put you up in a hotel or in corporate housing. The guys I've known who did it had awesome housing. A few guys had a penthouse in a luxury building completely paid for by the firm. Plus, since you are at training in a city other than your own they give you meal allowances.

It's not bad. Not the Four Seasons, but not Motel 8 either. Last year I went to a number of people's corp housing for full-time hires in regional offices. Had buddies at UBS, Barcap, and Goldman and they were all pretty decent, mid-range hotel rooms, but they were in corporate buildings, not actual hotels. I will say they were not as nice as corporate apts I saw in London, though.

Typically they put you up in corporate housing with the bank paying for it. Which is really nice because that is almost two months of rent you don't have to pay for while you are getting paid your normal salary and if you are really lucky you will get a per diem to pay for food, transportation, etc...

Would be nice to stay in a 5 star hotel for a few weeks...

They're not going to put you up at the Mandarin Oriental.

But those that use hotels use decent business class hotels.

Also, you will likely need to pay rent in your regional. Your training will likely finish on Friday and you will start in your office on Monday. Unless you plan on moving that weekend, you'll need to pay rent while you're not in your apartment.

Ok that's an exaggeration. But it was really nice to get to stay in a decent hotel for over a month and not really have close to a substantial workload.

Analysts in NYC usually have to pay their own rent and find an apartment for the duration of training, obviously not a great deal for them but probably better to spend the time upfront finding an apartment rather than later on when you actually get busy.

You guys should really savor training, probably won't have that much fun again until you finish up and take another extended vacation before your next job...

Um... Training starts early July and I am based out of NYC. I probably need to start calling those agents from June. Is it a good idea to live in a studio nearby the office in midtown east? I've no idea how it's like to hunt for apt in NYC. Maybe it's too unrealistic to just walk around 49th/5th and search for "for rent"...

Looking forward to more topics about housing =)
