almost everyone VP and above left...either to C en masse, or a few to DB a bit prior to the big exodus. Analysts and associates were not taken, except in maybe a couple of very limited circumstances.
Honestly I don't know why anyone would join that office (i didn't drop for it recently), and the former UBS guys said the same. No knock on the bank as a whole (though you probably could knock the bank as a whole) but it just doesn't make sense to join that group. Best case scenario they bring in some spare MD from another shop...either way doesn't look good in the near future.

I said it in juco speak..cartwright said it in mba speak
I know 4 VP's who left, and have heard from friend who works there that things got pretty ugly. Apparently last year so many senior people left that they had to rescind FT offers from people who had already accepted UBS and declined everywhere else...
Can't confirm this 100% but my source is pretty reliable.
Wall Street leaders now understand that they made a mistake, one born of their innocent and trusting nature. They trusted ordinary Americans to behave more responsibly than they themselves ever would, and these ordinary Americans betrayed their trust.
Apparently there are about 8 people left. They claim they are trying to have 15-20 by the start of the summer. Not sure who would want to go there though.
Whoever said UBS Houston is gone is dead wrong. I know people who work downtown in UBS wealth management. Things got ugly, yes, and a lot of people left, yes, but they haven't closed shop.

Does anyone have any insight on the Houston UBS group? Deal flow/types of deals, exits, outlook, culture? Thanks in advance for any information provided.
I know they took a pretty big hit somewhere around 2011-2013 because a very large group of senior professionals left the team. Don't know how they've been doing since then.
Thanks for the input ChimpOMS. I've heard the talk of the exodus a few years ago, but I'd like to hear someone's insight on the current status of the firm and if analysts have placed well in exits if the info is available. Without elaboration, I'm not sure if matayo's comment is a troll post or not.
It is probably better than the NY office, but its still UBS.
Look at the previous Houston threads. Best places to work in Houston are Barclays/CS and then maybe JP/Citi.
Otherwise, depends on comrared to which mm/boutiques.
I would stay away from UBS if you have any other options. They may be working their way back from the mass defections they had, but they are still weak in the space. There are huge questions about bonuses as well as the security of your job. There are 10-12 better places to work in Houston.

Everyone VP and up left and even top associates/analysts bounced to Citi. Entire ubs is dead in houston.
I have a guy that works for UBS in my gmat class. I assume he's an analyst.

if they hire correct they will be fine..
OT: check out your High School thread
Does UBS have a S&T desk in Houston? All I see on their career website is IB SA positions.
Monty, do you know if UBS will have anyone at ER this Friday?
@ cal - no @ brook-no
ER is sat not friday

This isn't wealth management board you idiot. People don't count ATMS branches in Tulsa Ohio when talking about analysts and MDs.
No one said they were literally gone. Just talent gone. Pay phones aren't "gone" either

AROUND UBS, NO SUCCESS

The one guy I know who left there went to a small 300m or so hedge fund
UBS just poached some 15 bankers from BMO's O&G group here in Houston http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/03/11/us-moves-ubs-ag-bmo-idUSKBN0M… . I figure that has to significantly change the dynamics of the team going forward, but I don't have any other insight to the group.

I thought Citi took UBS' entire energy team in Texas.
^^ Yes they pretty much gutted them
All true,Trauber squad bailed Fall 2010, but they did get the head of MS oil& gas to come over.
