Commercial Banking Exit Opps
Anyone know of what exit opps there are from a top BB commercial bank analyst program? This includes doing the formal credit training. Also wondering what starting pay is as well as bonus and signing bonus? Do you develop a solid skill set to transfer to other areas of finance?
Wondering if this is a path I might want to take as they recruit heavily frfom my school
Only exit opps are another CB or senior lender (i.e. GE, Capitalsource) or possibly a mezz/unitranche lender.
I have friends that have moved to investment banking from commercial banking. Most often it was one year of commercial banking, then starting as a first year analyst.
Probably depends on the firm, but I'm under the impression that is quite difficult.
I'm attempting to exit commercial banking and move to IB or Mezz debt and its not easy. The financial and accounting skills are similar but its still a huge jump. Your best bet is usually to lateral within the bank, but that's still not easy.
Difficult, but a little easier if you are in an industry specific commercial or corporate banking group and try to move over to the same industry coverage group at a MM bank.
That would make sense.
Not sure if that was sarcasm, if not than yes the only people I know that have made the move followed this sort of path. Hard to make the move if you're doing commercial banking at a smaller regional bank. Capital One is the smallest bank I've seen the move come from, and that was to a smaller MM.
No sarcasm. Agreement since 1/4 of the battle is won right away if you understand a specific industry coverage and move from CB to IB.
I was only thinking of BBs.
How can I advance or what is my exit for working as a financial analyst at a commercial bank? (Originally Posted: 07/03/2013)
or to put it in perspective, how can I become a damn good banker at a commercial bank? (think Wells Fargo, BoA, etc...)
I'm actually on the FP&A team, but it's part of the Accounting dept.
