How important are skills such as financial modelling and valuation for hedge funds?

I am a sophomore with no finance work experience whatsoever and looking to land my first trading internship at a bank/hedge fund but my resume seems far too mediocre. I do have some work experience but for non-finance related fields that don't seem to be useful on my resume, as well as a okay gpa (second upper honours).

Hence, I was thinking of investing some money into attending a financial modelling and valuations course to boost my resume and skillset. Would this be a good decision?
