Warwick Economics

Hello guys
As a prospective Investment Banker, I have finally decided to head to the University of Warwick for an Economics Degree. Seeing that university starts in October, does anyone here have any tips on how i can spend my next 4 months in a productive way which will hold me in good stead for Spring Week recruiting and beyond?
Any interesting books I could read to learn about IB in general as well as specific divisions? Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.
PS: I am an international student from India so yeah I know breaking into the UK will be extremely hard for me but I am up for the challenge

DM me, I’m at Durham transferring from law to Econ/Econ and Finance... looking to go into Equity Capital Markets in IB, it’d be good to do the reading, apps together so we can stay motivated, share info etc.

If you can’t DM me, I’ve set up a temp email — [email protected] — ping me a mail, and I’ll give my personal email and LinkedIn.

Cheers

Most people say it’s semi-target, at a lower tier than city unis, which has to be conceded. Yet looking at my LinkedIn, students have had no problem interning or getting work at the bulge brackets, or at botiques like KBW or Stephens Inc. and the business schools pulls in impressive speakers regularly.

Other things to consider is that Durham is quite boring, but we’re close to Newcastle and you’d only be here for a year :) Buying train ticket to attend financial events in London have accounted for most of my expenses this term.

Looking through LinkedIn some more (Summer 2019 internships and there’s 7 Durham Alumni at Lincoln International mostly associates, with on Director, and there’s 8 Durham alumni at the Blackstone group, 2 at Arma partners, 2 at Bryan, Garnier & Co, 1 at Cairn Financial Advisers, 1 at Cavendish Coprorate Finance LLP, 4 at Cenkos, 6 at Liberum, 1 at Piper Jaffray, 1 at Seymour Pierce, 3 at William Blair.... TBC

I'll be doing the same program in Warwick as you! I'm an international student from China who's currently a high school senior in the USA. I probably will do an internship in a mutual fund back in China, since my parents have some connection to find a spot for me. Guess I'll see you in October :)

I was at Warwick last year and got a spring week, which I converted. One of the most important thisng for you would be to prep for the numerical/verbal/logic tests. When you are at uni join the WFS, as they have a ton of events dedicated to spring weeks early in the year. Also, apply for the finance lab thing; they basically teach you modeling and accounting. Also under no circumstances should you take Introduction to Finance, it's honestly such a crap module. If you have any questions feel free to PM.
