Time Between Submitting Online Application and Hearing from Company

So this doesnt just apply for Morgan Stanley, but I applied to a bunch of internship programs last week (around the 16th), including Morgan Stanley, but havent heard from them. None of them have online job trackers as well so I havent gotten any information about them except for confirmation emails saying that they have gotten my application. When should I expect to hear from them if they wish to interview me? Will the even send an email saying that they have rejected me?? I hate not knowing the status of anything.

how long to hear back from internship application?

When it comes to online applications, you will likely not receive a rejection email until the application window has closed as they can keep your application on file if they need to interview another bucket of candidates. When it comes to being pushed through to an interview stage, you could find out that week or you could find out months later - it all depends on the firm and on your attractiveness as an applicant.

jec - Private Equity Associate:
Anywhere between a day and 4 months [to find out] for me, some don't even respond. For BBs usually after the deadline.

Angus Macgyver - Consultant:
There was this one place I applied to. They called me up for an interview... 6 months after I sent in my application.

Was this for Summer Analyst programs? Most of the recruiting for those are done by now. The online deadlines don't really mean anything and most of the time firms either won't reply at all or will just send an automated rejection to the applications they receive through it.

yea it was for the summer ISG operations program. It was still open on the website when I looked, the one for Goldman Sachs is still open too which surprised me bc I thought most of the deadlines had passed. But the online system let me apply and everything.

it was definitely for this summer for operations. It said summer 2012 ISG Operations after I searched "Internship". It allowed me to apply & there was no cut off date in the job description. Some of the other job descriptions said March 1st but this one didnt have one. There were actually quite a bit different summer analyst positions open for MS still so I was surprised. GS is still taking apps for operations as well.

Got at least 3 interviews this year with companies just through online apps. GS being one of them. As far as I know, I hadn't networked with anyone in the company and the only person I had known was in a different division completely. But i also hadn't contacted him until after I got the superday invite.
I also got interviews with some large firms from online apps. Not exactly IB names, but regardless. You never know.

Guess i write a mean cover letter or something.

If you are coming from a target you just need to wait for OCR. (Should be on your campus site).

If you apply online and there is no OCR honestly expect to not hear back at all for first rounds. Online applications are a blackhole for the most part (there are of course exceptions). Also certain banks (GS/MS) are sort of done with first rounds from what i heard / filled alot of their class already.

Happy to help as I recently just got an offer from a EB yesterday!

It's really at the bank's/HR's/reviewer's discretion. Obviously they're not going to start reviewing them 2 months in advance, but they probably do start looking at them a week or less before the invitations go out. You might as well resubmit an updated resume, it seems you have nothing to lose.
