How long was your interview process ?
Guys,
I have heard some ridiculous numbers being thrown around, as long as 6 - 8 months to go through a hedge fund interview process. Just want to get a sense of what the "average" is. If you are currently at a HF, can you please share how long your interview process was ?
It depends on a whole variety of factors... You need to be a little more specific.
I've been through many processes on both ends. Some large funds (such as Elliott for example), are known to have potentially 6-9 month processes with various rounds and tests and tribulations.
The majority of hedge funds are hiring for more immediate requirements, with the process taking 1-3 months. The standard process will be:
1a. Potentially come back again to meet additional people.
Some sort of case study or modeling exam where they guarantee that you have some aptitude for the tasks you will need to do at that fund
Meet the partners / MD's / senior members of the team. These people need to give you the thumbs up before any hiring decisions are made
The above is probably 50%-75% of processes. The rest are catered to the needs / demands of the firm and hard to template.
