How many hours per week do you spend at the office? Vote in the new poll
Vote in our new poll: here
Since a lot of SA's will be voting, my updated guess is 41-50 wins, closely followed by 61-70 and 71-80.
The guys at 80+ won't have time to vote so that will skew the results a bit...
Which do you guys predict will be #1?
Waits for everyone to vote that they work 100 hours a week even though they may have done it once, maybe
Haha I feel like when people first graduate they think working 100 hours a week is "cool" then they turn 30 and they are like fu*k.
*this was a couple of years ago, no one uses that thing now
If it takes you to 30, that's a redflag
By 30, i'm assuming you mean day 30 of you SA stint.
45 hours per week, fuck yeah. Public sectors jobs are the best work-life balance ever.
Public sector and 45 hours? You're working way too hard...
They just closed regular session though, so this summer is going to be relaxing. I'll be leaving the office at 2pm every day, so probably looking at like, 30 hours a week haha.
Public workers aren't the brightest crayons in the box and they work horrendously slowly. I've had many moments where I want to gouge my eyes out. By the time I process 5 packets of data, the other worker in my office (shared offices, but at least I get a door!) finishes 1 packet. In my department, even if I'm a rockstar I can't be promoted by sheer virtue of budget restraints and time requirements. So here I am, working at the level of a Researcher IV and getting paid Research I salary. It sucks, but the work-life balance thing is great. I get lectured by my bosses for staying past 4pm. Or maybe we're just not allowed to use taxpayer money for overtime.
That's the other thing. Using company money for ANYTHING is like pulling teeth. There is no free coffee/snacks/whatever. I was without a proper chair for a few weeks while they reviewed budgets to make sure they could squeeze it in. I had to petition the director to spend $20 on freaking POST-IT NOTES...
And my previous jobs, for those curious: M&A consulting - 70-ish hours Marketing - 30-40 hours, usually on the lower end Corporate communications consulting - 50 hours
As a consultant, between 0 and 8 hours. Now Marriott properties and airports on the other hand...
Honestly wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had to be in the exact same space for 9+ hours per day. Every day. Forever.
How do you like public sector work? I thought about that exit, I'd be a rockstar if I'm basing my assessment on experiences with other public sector employees, but just think I'd kill myself being surrounded by them every day. Did you find that unicorn group of public workers who try hard?
What if you go to the office, do 30 min of work, then chill for a few hours surfing the web and getting your free meals lol
65!
I never work. I just create
Well you know what they say... If you are doing what you love you will never work a day in your life
Nobody in their right frame of mind "loves" formatting slides at four in the morning. The whole "do what you love" vibe is aimed squarely at people who start their own all natural vegan hot pilates gym with their dad's trust fund money, not the juniors trying to make it in IB. Just my .02.
S&T - 55.
REPE - 45
Equity Research - 65
M&A (Ind. Group) - 50 at the absolute bare minimum up to 90 when everything hits the fan. Too much volatility to give it an average, sometimes you'll be in the office 20+ days in the row, other times you'll get a free weekend.
Probably about 70+ But not all hours are as productive as others
I don't care how good the work/life balance is, I couldn't deign to do work for Big Brother bureaucrats if my life depended on it.
