how much does a game matter?

I know this is kinda off topic, but I got tired of idiots talking about how much history matters for their college football team etc. That got me thinking about exactly how much a given historical game matters and trying to make a simple model for it. Below is the rough draft, who can think outside the box the best and improve on it?

If (game took place within last 4 years)
A= (2/3) / ((4 - years ago the game took place) /4)

If current coach = coach from that game
A=A+(1/3)

If you think there is something more that applies to a games actual relevancy than the players on the field and the coach on the sidelines, then you need to be able to answer a much more important question: "what exactly does football have to do with higher education?"

A better model for the first part would follow the % of total minutes played in a season played by seniors / juniors/ sophmores / freshmen, instead of the linear 25% decrease per year. I don't have that data though.
