How bad would it look to drop a class?

I am planning to drop a class that is unrelated to my coursework/degree plan (Management Information Systems Class) and also at most I would get a C+/B- (if I am lucky) since its a pretty tough class and I cannot afford that low of a letter grade this semester definitely. On my transcript it will show as a Q (equivalent of Withdrawal Pass) I was wondering how bad would this look when it came to IB screenings/interview and overall recruiting? In general how bad are drops viewed in the eyes of a recruiter. This would be my first dropped class btw

It's no big deal whatsoever, at least in my experience. I have dropped 2 classes in the past, on my record it shows up as a WP (Withdrawal Pass).
I've still managed to intern at Google, GS, other top tech comps, and have just landed interviews with 2/3 MBBs for full time jobs.
I don't even think they look to carefully at those things. When companies analyze academic achievements they look at a combination of: - Overall GPA; GPA in major(s) - Degree; and difficulty of major

Nobody cares. I dropped a couple classes, and it never came up. No banker will ever see your transcript. If HR wants it, it will just be to confirm that you graduated and that your GPA is roughly what you said.
Can't say what it means for MBA admissions, but I think work experience and leadership is a much bigger component. Average GPA at HBS is like 3.55?
So as far as grad schools (specifically MBA/Law) go why exactly would it look bad?

I come from a mid-tier ivy, with a 3.5ish GPA, if that's of any significant. Obviously aiming for one of the tops.
I just got into three M7 schools (not H/S) with a 3.5 in a liberal arts major from a top-tier state school. Had one W, a few pass/fails. Probably better to get a W than a C. Think your resume and GPA/GMAT matter far more than any particular classes, though who knows. Maybe my W got me rejected from a fourth school, but I doubt it.
I know that there are plenty of adcomms or admission consultants on the board who can opine more fully but my educated guess is that a W has absolutely zero bearing on your b-school chances (assuming the rest of the profile is strong).

Hey all,
Did a little searching and didn't find what I wanted. I wound up missing a lot of class time due to travel for super days and I'm behind in a tax class solely based on test scores. First test is tonight and if I don't do well I'm thinking of dropping and taking the class next fall. I'll still be at 15 credits after the drop and will still graduate on time, no problem. Question is, will having a drop/W on my transcript hurt my chances of getting into an elite B-school if the time ever comes? Additional notes, I have a BB SA gig for this summer that I plan to take FT if given the shot. Attend a non-core in the Midwest.

I assume what goes on your transcript depends on the school, but either way, I can't imagine that it will make any difference. Dropping a class 3-6 years before applying, when your GPA is very good, probably will not even be noticed. You'll be fine.

Been having a lot of personal problems lately, and they peaked last week when I took an exam and quiz for an accounting class. Got low CS on both. If I drop it would be my first "W", but the problem is I'd be left with 12 credits, which is the bare minimum. What do you guys think?

who cares? so you'd be in 4 classes instead of 5...
having a single W on your transcript will mean significantly less than the effect that the class could have on your GPA.

Drop that shit man. As long as it doesn't hinder you from graduating on time, at least.
That's what I'm going to check when I go talk to my adviser. As of right now, I'd graduate easily despite this W, if I decide to major exclusively in finance. I was thinking of going double in Econ, but I'm not too sure of that now anyways. Thanks for the advice guys. Class is boring as hell anyways.
just drop it....as long as you limit yourself to 1/2 W's on the transcript there shouldnt be too many issues

Isn't a W after a certain deadline still factored into your GPA as a 0.0?
