5 million dollar you can make a perpetuity that pays you 200k each year, assuming a 4% rate.

50m tho.

Amen to that. To me, it was never about the game, it is all about winning. If I made money at the end, sure why not. But just making money is not enough to make me happy. I want to win. I want to compete. I want do defeat all of my opponents.

“It is not enough merely to win; others must lose.”

This is going to sound ridiculous but ever since reading the Jim Leitner interview in Inside the House of Money, running my own family office has seemed like best job I could ever think of. It apparently takes a net worth of 100 Million to make that a viable proposition, so there you go. Any gains above 2 Bill would automatically go into a conservatively managed GoodBread Foundation, focused on eradicating world hunger.

however much an inflation-protected annuity that pays me $250k/year costs.
Dude, you're getting soft. That should be pretty easy to ballpark. Just use a constant inflation estimate as the growth rate and give yourself 40 (generous) years to collect it.

Do the math and give us a number

i've actually done the math before... any suggestions on a discount rate? and average life expectancy of the American male is 75 years, so i would be collecting over 50 years if i were to retire today.

People that turn it into a heirarchy of egos annoy me. It's like the IBD first year who looks down on a retail guy pulling in $5MM, they're just missing the point: this is about money. If you want 'glory' then be the best at what you do.
Get busy living

I'm not a Troll, I got my shirt tucked in and my shoes tied tight.

All i wanna do is have fun with my luvved ones. If that means stackin' a few bills in San Fran or NY, so be it.

If that means sittin' courtside with Beyonce, so be it. Stop hatin' on my game. I just play it to play.

Y'all sound like a bunch of Winklevosses

Not sure. I want 4 years of private undergrad paid for each of my kids. I wasn't able to go to the undergrad school I wanted, I don't want money to be an issue for their decisions. So that's 200k for each kid (probably more by the time I get around to having them). Don't really want too crazy of a house. I was just thinking about franchising restaurants to supplement my income... quick read showed that Chickfila's net store owners 100k a year, while Bojangles brings in 330k.

As long as I can have a few cars, keep the wife happy, I'm not looking to be an oil barron or anything. I want to get out early too... 45 would be nice.
