How should a sopohmore at a target prepare for IB interviews junior year?
I'm a sophomore studying engineering at a target with a good GPA.
I tried to get a part-time gig in IB/PE/PWM this Spring semester, but it failed since I didn't even know basic accounting (working on fixing that now). I'm interning as a software engineer this summer (and I can't renege my offer, so I can't do finance sophomore summer).
My plan is to double up on econ classes, learn accounting, valuation and DCFs from the BIWS guide and online courses over the semester and summer. Then, I'll try to get a part-time gig at a boutique bank my junior Fall semester. Hopefully, I can land interviews at BBs this way.
Does this seem like a feasible plan? Is there something else I should do?
Start networking and be careful how many hours you work in the fall since that is when most banks will come on campus to recruit and so it would be easy to get overwhelmed (I worked during recruiting and it is very hectic...).
Could you expand upon "start networking"? From what I've noticed, most banks have information sessions on campus during the Fall semester before interviews start, not right now in the Spring.
