How to follow up after equity research interview
I interviewed a well-known boutique equity research firm in New York 2 weeks ago. I was interviewed by research head and an research analyst. I think I did good on technical questions and introducing my qualifications. I completed their test, which is writing a earning note and updating financial model based on the current quarterly earning release. I got relied saying I did good on the test and would hear back in a week (should be this week).
I really want this job and this company is definitely an ideal place for me to start my equity research career. ( I worked in a boutique IB for 1 year) I want to spend some efforts to prove that I am really eager to have this job. I was thinking to find interesting news about the analyst's covered companies and try to raise some topics to show my interests and passion. Is this a good idea to follow up again? (I definitely has sent thank you letter after interview). Is there any other way that I can follow up again to show my determination or tremendous interest? Thank you for helping me out. I would really appreciate it.
Follow up after the interview (Originally Posted: 05/01/2015)
I interviewed for a research associate position with hiring analyst and current research associate last week. One day after I had the interview, I sent them a thank you note and got a response "let's keep in touch" from the associate.
Toward the end of the interview, I was told that they just started looking for people to fill up this position so it probably will take some time to hear from them. However, after one week, I was thinking to proactively follow up on the process to show my interests.
Wondering if one week is too soon for that? If no, what will you write in the mail that will put you in a better position? Thanks!!
One week is about the right time. It's been about another week since you wrote this which is ok too. I bet it takes them longer (having to check out other candidates, HR takes forever to do things), so I wouldn't sweat it too much if they still haven't gotten back to you.
If I had to bet, I'd say it takes them a month or two to get their act together if they actually just started looking, but you should stay in reasonable contact.
Thank you very much!
what firm?
keep in touch and wait a while. Wait a month or so - it takes time to get clearance to hire graduates
interview follow up - Regional boutique (Originally Posted: 02/01/2012)
I had a phone interview with regional boutique last friday for SA. I talked with 3 interviewers in a row and they told me that that i would be hearing back on monday or tuesday. i thought the interviews went well (other than one technical that i couldnt answer) and worried that i havent heard back yet. should i email one of the interviewers (who happens to be an alum as well) to ask about my status? I have already sent thank you emails over the weekend, so im kind of hesitant about emailing them again. i was thinking about waiting until friday and email to ask about my status/restate my interest for the position.. thoughts? oh, should i also include the answer to the particular technical question that i was not able to answer?
thank you guys in advance
i forgot to add that when i talked to them, they said that they were still deciding on whether to have another round of interviews or not... does this change anything?
I've always been of the "don't call attention to mistakes you make by bringing them up again" school of thought. Beyond that, if they really are trying to decide about multiple rounds of interviews, I don't think it would hurt much to shoot them an email reiterating your interest and inquiring about the process if you haven't heard something by Friday.
reiterate your interest for sure...but don't bring up your missed questions
Boutiques do not have official HR deadlines. They're probably just dragging the process along.
That being said, definitely follow up if you haven't heard by Friday.
first round interview follow-up (Originally Posted: 09/26/2012)
I interviewed with a MM firm on the last friday of august for a FT analyst position, and the Associate told me that the superday wont be until end of October.
Since a few weeks have gone by, should I follow-up to remind him of my interest for the firm? I think I did pretty well but I'm afraid they might've forgotten me since they're interviewing many other candidates in between.
Thanks in advance
