How to get my foot in the door

Unfortunately It took me years to find out what i wanted to do with my career, but now that i know i worry it's too late to find a way to break into the industry. I'm 25 years old and just finishing my MBA. I currently am closing in on my second year with a local energy company where i have an accountant / analyst / inventory control type role. Within the past few months i discovered my passion for equity research and the thrill i get trying to find a stock that is about to rise. I don't have any related internship experience so i'm worried i'll never get a shot. I noticed some online courses and seminars in NYC about equity research, would these be something i could include on my resume to help my chances? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You

I was/am in the same boat as you. I was finishing up my MBA and got lucky with a ER position for a small boutique firm. My advice is to network as much as you can and consider sitting for the CFA exams. Having employers hear that you are working towards a CFA designation or already have it is a big plus. Online courses and modeling would definitely help as well.

Having the CFA behind is a HUGE plus. Setting up for taking it though isn't as big a deal as you may think, as passing it is key! However, I'm sure it helps regardless.

Wow, anybody who has to ask like this really has very little chance. There are TONS of subjects on this with really great advice. It's called 'researching'. One thing I would say is learn to use capitalization.

And if you say that you get a 'thrill' on finding a stock that is about to rise, they will just laugh at your face.
