I-Banking/PE in Energy, Utilities & Infrastructure Industry
I’m interested in pursuing an MBA in Finance and Strategy major in a top US B-School. I have a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and I work as an Engineer/Task Lead at a Fortune 500 Engineering Firm. I provide engineering consulting services to clients from Energy, Utilities and Infrastructure (EUI) sector. My long term goal is to be in the I-Banking/PE with focus on EUI sector. I want to be an expert in financial advisory, such as M&A and Buyouts, and underwriting equity and debt securities to fund new projects and raise capital within the above sector. I gave the CFA Level 1 exam this summer and I’m awaiting its result. While studying for the curriculum, I was really interested in the topics: Corporate Finance, Financial Statement Analysis, and Equity & Debt Valuation. These topics are at the heart of Investment Banking, which is why I want to pursue my career in this field. The concepts that I learnt in Finance along with my engineering experience and an MBA in a top B-School will definitely help launch a success career in Investment Banking in the EUI Sector.
Hence, I want to gather more information on the prospects and the future of this sector. The information I gather will definitely help me better understand the mechanics of this sector and also give me insights into the potential challenges and rigors of such a career track.
I really appreciate if anybody in the specific industry can provide some info or atleast avenues where I can make some contacts.
Thank you

Make contacts in business
Make contacts in business school if in fact you get into a top program.
In order to pursue my long
In order to pursue my long term goals, I need to switch careers. Since I'm already in Engineering consulting, I just need to change function as opposed to changing both function and industry. However, Investment banking career especially in Engineering sector is completely unknown to me. I have done extensive research online browsing through various company profiles, and staying up to date with published info such as the deal magazine, WSJ, etc and gathering my case. However, the best information I can get in order write technically sound eassy is through somebody who is in this field ... making contacts after I get into a B-School is inevitable but making contacts and knowing more know is extremely important as well .. Thanks
