IBD BB DCM or ER Boutique

I have 3 offers on the table.
-
Investment Banking, Bulge Bracket (Toronto) - Debt Capital Markets, IB hours, ~110kUSDall-in 1st year
Equity Research, Boutique (New York) - Biotechnology , 60-70 hours a week, ~70-80k USD all-in 1st year

My long term goal is manage money at a HF, hopefully equities (Already have 2 summer FO internship at a mega buy-side fund i.e. Fidelity, GSAM).

At the ER gig, they said I will be going to hosting and going to conferences, meeting management teams, and initiating on 20+ companies over 2 years. The firm itself is 1 of the best FI trading teams in the business (they have tons of Citadel, Lehman, Bear, Greenwich people there) but their equity division is newer (hence why there's so many initiations). My direct analysts come from BBs to MMs (i.e. Citi, RBC).

I love the people there, and I've been talking to them every week for the past 2-3 months. They are willing to sponsor me (I'm Canadian), and I feel that will help down the road for other US employers to sponsor me as well, as opposed to starting off in Toronto.

As you can see I'm learning towards the ER gig (but the huge money gap is an issue - but I'll have

My biggest concern is which will lead me to a HF.

Hey canadiananalyst - I have a question. To work in the US, must one apply first, get the job, and have them sponsor you? Or is there another way to go about doing it where one can get a work permit first then apply?

Thanks

Don't listen to anyone, everybody is scared.

Don't forget, you also need a brand name for recruitment to good hedge funds later.

"I do not think that there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature."

baystheese: H1B for them to sponsor you, or TN if your Canadian. Basically you need to walk them through that a TN isn't that hard to get Ambani: Well my main point is that will the BB brand carry more weight to HFs than my obvious really good experience in biotech and HF contacts I will meet in NY?
