IBD in LA: Where to live, whats the lifestyle
Will be starting IB FT in LA soon. Office is in century city and am curious as to where are cool, nearby and affordable areas to live.
Also any other insight on the city and lifestyle in IB would be helpful, don't know a whole lot about the place.
I'm a fan of Santa Monica, Brentwood, and Westwood. Westwood is probably the cheapest out of the three. None of them are particularly cheap, but they are really fun areas.
What's the commute from Santa Monica like?
Depends on the time
While Westwood is probably closest to you, I'd rather live in Brentwood or Santa Monica. Santa Monica (furthest away) has a very lively night life with a ton of bar options. You can pay anywhere from 1k-2k for a bedroom in all three of the aforementioned locations - much cheaper than NY, SF, and Boston but don't forget you need to factor in car expenses.
Hepperd
Does the lifestyle differ at all from that of an East Coast city?
I've lived in LA my entire life and just spent a summer interning in NYC. Lifestyle is verrrryyyyy different in the sense that LA is a much more laid back type of city; everything seems to move in slow motion here compared to NY. However, the nightlife here is lacking compared to an east coast town. All the bars/clubs here close at 2 AM, so people don't exactly party that late. I def recommend living in Westwood/Santa Monica, just because I love the west LA area and you'll have a lot to do there. Shouldn't be more than a 10-15 min drive to Century City as well.
I'm also gonna be working IB FT in Century City, so if you need any more info feel free to pm me.
Tend to agree here. If you want a more fast-paced nightlife or prefer clubs over bars, better off living in west hollywood (if you're willing to take a longer commute).
Santa Monica is my favorite, by far.
I believe Santa Monica is rent controlled, so if you are able to find one of those places that would be a pot of gold.
From my understanding, those rent controlled apartment managers will ask you for your income and adjust rent accordingly. People who have locked in rents way back when are the ones really benefiting from rent controlled policies.
Malibu ;p
But seriously, Westwood, Brentwood, SM, or West Hollywood
What about attire? Typical suit and tie or more relaxed?
Attire for IB in century city, prob a suit - but really depends on the firm
Really depends on the firm. Half of the BB's don't even require a tie.
Lol, nobody in any firm on the west coast, wears a suit/tie to the office. Jesus christ this forum has to be filled with high school/college students
