90% of your posts are completely substance free whining about liberals/democrats/barack obama. shut the fuck up if you aren't going to actually add anything. at least ANT has something to talk about when he goes after the left.

I'm trying to get someone like you mad and argue the other way.

I just wanted to note that this isn't really a liberal/conservative thing. It's more of an authoritarian/libertarian issue. I happen to agree with the basic premise of this documentary- basically that government overreach into the personal lives of citizens has gotten out of hand.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

The people want to be regulated. Freedom is frightening and dangerous for most people. Look at retirement savings rates, educational attainment, etc. Look at the bad habits people have.

The majority of people cannot take care of themselves or their lives.

I agree, and it really is sad. People like us, however, do not benefit from things like social security. We have knowledge and money to invest that 12% of our salary by ourselves. It's almost a guarantee that it would offer us much more in return too. So what we're talking about is a lack of education...does that mean we have to keep on paying for the poor and uneducated, or can we just fix this problem?

How do you fix it? If you allow people to starve they will revolt. You buy their compliance with small cash payments.

Focus on minimizing your tax exposure and gaining wealth so you can either hide it or transfer it away from the tax man. The masses will be happy with their crappy SSI check and welfare payments.

You vote for Ron Paul.

If not, then just be prepared for the worse. If you look at the trends, it doesn't look good. People are breeding like rats, the governement is subsidizing them and socialism is rampant.

So you end up with a world filled with billions of starved socialists feeling entitled to your money.

or or or, vote for Gingrich, he'll build that moon base so we can escape there.

I love Ron Paul, but those millions of socialists with claims to your earnings also have a vote. Do you think they want someone who is going to force freedom on them? Get real. That is their nightmare.

I'll vote for RP, but he will not win because we don't deserve him as a nation.

Just focus on yourself and your wealth. Pay as little taxes as possible and don't donate anything you don't have to. This country is no longer a team effort. Fend for yourself.

[quote=ANT]How do you fix it?

As far as we know...People don't save for retirement because they will have SS checks in the mail and don't feel worried.

If we got rid of those, I'm pretty sure people would smarten up and find a financial adviser to help them out.

How will they pay for it you ask? Well they won't be paying that FICA tax and overall they will probably have a better quality life. Why wouldn't this work if we eased into it over an extended period of time?

What if we cut the FICA tax each year and see what happens when people realize they have no money at retirement? People will evolve.

I seriously think that the conservative right needs to map out a 16 year plan. There are things that I don't necessary like about Ron Paul, but that can be said for the other candidates as well. I certain, on a personal level, support many of his ideals, but he often comes across as disconnected from reality. Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon strikes me as bad. The caveat there, of course, is how reliable the intelligence and the question of how involved we need to be. As much as I don't want them to have one, maybe it's time we say we don't support it and behind the scenes we let Israel do as they see fit...after all, they will ultimately do what they think is necessary, regardless of whether America supports them or not.

Back to domestic issues. We...and I just mean our parents and their parents...have created a society that is filled to the brim with entitled, mentally anemic citizens. A culture of dependence has been developed and all the sheeple have just conformed to that. We need the government to cut us a check if we don't have a job and take our money and save it for us because we aren't capable of doing it ourselves and tell us what food to eat and remind is that chewing on a chainsaw while it's being operated can potentially be dangerous. I wish that wasn't the case.

I think, for the most part, people here on WSO don't fall into that category and I certainly believe that I don't...but it's hard for me to visualize a civilized country where drugs are legal when I look around and see a society that relies on the government for everything.

I know there is a fundamental debate as to whether or not the liberties of all should be restricted for the benefit of the few, but I don't think you can always take such a libertarian approach...or should I say you can't take that point without coming across as seemingly insane. This is why I suggest some sort of Illumanati-esque long term plan where we reign in the spending, reduce the debt and slowly (but as quickly as seeming reasonable) restore out liberties. I think this will be an even slower process when it comes to drugs just because of the related violence and physical abuse (especially to kids) that is often attributed to drug abuse/use, but in all honesty I don't know if that is more correlation or causation...but the point remains, it will be a difficult point. Additionally, I'm still not convinced the black market for drugs disappears but that's a debate for another time.

In summary, we have created a society that can't make good decisions, even when guided by the government via rules and regulations. People assume that if the government doesn't have something banned, then it can't hurt them. Reversing positions on things like drugs or prostitution could have very negative consequences...possibly just in the short term, possibly not. People will struggle with accepting that. Ultimately the whole situation strikes me as ironic simply because the 'liberation' of those two industries is actually just going to lead to more government regulations in the long run.

It's just too bad that not everyone is like the people on WSO.

Imagine this country if every American had a good education. Knowledge is power right?

There would be no need for a government to take care of people. They would only exist to enforce punishment for bad behavior, because even smart people make bad decisions. The most important thing in the world is education...everything else is later tied into that. Every financial problem would be solved.

Haha, be careful what you wish for.

^^ It's not even about education in a traditional sense, it's a lack of moral compass and 'upbringing' by a decent family. This country was probably in a better/safer position before everyone starting going to college...not because college is bad, but because college became the new standard, partly through government social engineering.
