Nobody at a big shop is going to take the time to google your name and, even if they did, they will likely not read any article unless it directly alludes to felonious activity. That said, if they did find out, they might screen you out. For example, I probably wouldn't hire anyone who genuinely thinks communism is a viable method for improving the economic prospects of a country, purely because I don't think that such an belief is coherent from an analytic perspective. tldr; probably not worth it, but if it's easy to control and it will help you sleep, go for it.
Never be associated with politics is a good general rule. Little upside, huge downside. Of course some things are a lot more controversial than others. We're you saying things like 'God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve' or 'Osama bin Laden was a wonderful man and here are the top ten reason why' or something equally ridiculous?
What kind of stuff did you write about that has you so worried?
Dicks spot on. Getting involved in politics just isn't worth it, especially in a public forum. Sit around over dinner and drinks and talk all you want as long as you're in comfortable company (don't bring up politics when you first meet someone) is one thing. Writing articles, and especially if they could be viewed as extreme in either end of the spectrum is a bad idea. You could be meeting with an Ayn Rand type in the morning an a George Soros in the afternoon and you never know here they stand at first glance (unless it actually is a Koch brother or Soros himself but most of us don't have that problem).
I've googled interview candidates before making offers.
I stand corrected. As I've never hired anyone directly, I was basing this on having gotten an offer, despite have a mug shot online that comes up pretty readily.
They definetely do google you at big shops I remember getting LinkedIn views from the people who were interviewing me at almost all the banks and I'm sure they googled to find it
Luckily my name is generic enough where I have plausible deniability. Yes, you may get googled. If you're a conservative you're generally going to be better off in the financial services sector, unless you are looking for employment in the northeast, at which point you will probably be worse off.
