Include *Target School Attendance* in resume?

I went to a target school but I had to leave when my family went through a bankruptcy.
My leave of absence took a bit too long and eventually was removed from school's register.
Some years later when things got better I applied to another non-target, received financial aid.

Would it be alright to mention that I attended a target school before in my resume or at least in the interview?
I'm sure if they called they can confirm that but would they even bother?

Hmmmm. You know, this is a tough situation, but I kind of feel like you should mention it. I mean it is obvious from this site that target schools receive a preference as compared to non targets. It is unfortunate and a shame that something so tragic happened to you and your family. I think your situation really can highlight determination, strength, poise, etc. I would list both schools and put an bullet saying had to leave because of extenuating circumstances. When you network bring it up, but use it as a adversity that you overcame. I can't see too many people penalizing you for something like this. In fact, I have been seeing a lot of press about this exact situation. Shows a lot of character. Good luck!

Thanks, AnthonyD1982. I'll try to bring it up like in passing, or when I'm going thru my resume. Oh, and I attended the previous school for 1 full year and now am a junior at my new school.

Put them both down. If I looked at your resume and saw 1 year and a top 4 school, then a break and then a full ride to a top 30 school I would think this kid is really talented, what happened to cause him to leave the ivy. It would be the 1st thing I would ask during an interview.

Full ride to a top 30 isn't anything to down play either.

Mention it but Not on your resume. They won't bother much. Maybe if you're lucky, one of the interviewers might actually pick up and see it as a proving factor of how determined you are. But since you're attending a different school now, I don't think its a really good idea to put it on your resume, since it could confuse some interviewers (and they hate confusions) But you could definitely mention it while telling your story.

If I were the interviewer, I'd think that you flunked out of the Top 4, spent 2 years somewhere else and re-applied someplace else. So leave it out, but tell your story in the interview. Let the Interviewer write something down on your resume like "This guy went to Harvard but had money problems"

I don't really think you'd assume he flunked out of the target if he had a high GPA listed next to it

To me it helps separate you from the thousands of other non target applications but that's just my opinion

He got accepted into a top 4 school, gone for 2 years, now has a full ride to a top 30 school. No one is going to think he flunked out. You got in and went there, put it on. Most people transfer and leave the other school off because they transferred to a better school. In his case it was the reverse. I think he deserves to have that top name on his resume.
