Internal M&A?
My cousin just accepted a summer SA offer for the internal M&A and Finance group of a BB. Apparently he will have rotations in Treasury, M&A and another group that I can't remember. It sounded interesting to me but surely this isn't FO? Is this good experience? He seems to hate the thought of working banking hours but I haven't really heard too much about this group so I don't know whether or not its a good decision for him to make.
Sounds fancy but likely glorified back office
I have friends that work in "internal M&A" in fortune 100 firms.
Nothing like working at an investment bank. True hours or shorter but so is the bonus, quality of work, and intensity compared to an investment bank.
Your call. Many of these 'internal M&A" groups everywhere are run by ex bankers/consultants that wanted a lifestyle change.
Thought the same. Seems a good tradeoff for people like my cousin who don't want the grueling hours of FO banking. It's not like he's going to be hurting for cash compared to the average person
Internal M&A vs REAL M&A (Originally Posted: 05/13/2010)
hi there
what do you think about these options for someone from Spain, in both long term career prospect and money. Currently working in internal M&A for a bank, option 1: 1yr abroad, master in management (finance)at Harvard Extension school, CFA and working at retail bank part time in unknown position, revert back to Spain to unknown role but executive, option 2: generalist M&A at RBS 3rd yr analyst, option 3: FIG M&A at SocGen 3yr analyst
Please tell me some thoughts
thanks
Agreed
Isn't Spain's unemployment ridiculously high (20%)? I'd say go with what you can get
