Hey guys, I would really appreciate your advice regarding internship choice. I go to a target (Umich, Northwestern, Stern), and my goal is to position myself well for full-time recruiting in the fall with BBs and top boutiques.
1)Needham & Company IB (Boston)- mostly focused on tech M&A
2)Brown Gibbons Lang & Company IB (Chicago) - focused on consumer products and defense services M&A.
I wanted to know which you would recommend and why. Thanks a lot!

Why, out of curiosity, are you so concerned with these two firms - are these the two firms that have given you summer offers already? If so, shouldn't you have already made the decision? If not, why are you focused on them?
If these are the firms you are choosing between to intern with over the summer, I would choose the firm that seems more interesting in terms of current deal flow (you will only be there for a few months, so if there is a strong pipeline now, you will probably be busy throughout) and industry - do you like consumer/retail and defense(tech) products, or would you prefer to work primarily in the tech field? Which group seems to have a better culture and fit with your hobbies and personality based on interviews and any meetings/phone exchanges. Are they both looking to bring on full-time employees, or are they mainly looking for a summer intern? Finally, would you prefer to live in Boston, or Chicago? These are just a handful of questions to ask yourself, but at the end of the day, it's where you think you'll enjoy your summer the most, and get the most (experience-wise) out of the opportunity. Disclaimer: I don't know these two firms, but this is how I would decide between two boutiques that both sound interesting, but neither has a clear advantage over the other in terms of prestige (if one does have a clear advantage, I don't know it, but that would obviously be a point for the more prestigious boutique).

Needham & Co. is the clear choice here, even though both options have pretty serious downsides. I won't disclose any private information here (nor via PM), but be very careful before you accept an offer with BGL. You'll have a great view of the city, but some pretty lonely nights...

I am not sure about Needham but I second Compbanker about BGL. I don't think there are enough deal flows over there since last fall.
I'm not sure about this fall, but last fall I think BGL rescinded some offers due to lack of dealflow. So, if you're concerned about full-time this fall, I'd look into that. I'm not positive about this, can someone confirm?
