Internship in Real Estate Division - Important terms/skills?
Hi,
I am very interested in real estate acqusition/development/management and managed to get an internship in my first year of University at a bank with a pretty expensive and growing portfolio.
I already ordered a book that discusses acquisition and development of real estate - however I would like to here from people who have worked there before about skills and terms I would need to know (especially because I have a lot of slack-time during my current internship in the bank and would like to research a bit)
Looking foward to your answers.
Kind regards.
Also, I heard that Real Estate is being fro´wnd upon by M&A and other IBD - is this true and why?
Sorry - is your long term goal banking or real estate?
I'm only in my first year in College having had two interships. But I would say: real estate. (:
How to prepare for RE Banking internship (Originally Posted: 04/06/2011)
I have a summer internship in RE Ibanking at a well known bank in California. I already know ARGUS and the basics of real estate, but what is the best way to prepare for this other than staying current with any related news?
Appreciate the help, and responses only in American English, no engrish please
Learn about real-estate specific valuation: think RE uses FFO (funds from operations) instead of EBITDA; learn about (R/C)MBS, learn the big names in RRE and CRE, etc.
You'll learn a ton once you start.
RE is different from the way you would look at and value other industries, so anything you try to learn now will probably just confuse you. Just keep doing what you are doing, and familiarize yourself with the major REITs and recent deals in the space (I think the SPG / GGP deal was huge before it got pulled. Those are two major mall REITs). Also, keep an eye on how the RMZ is doing. You will pick up a lot when you start. They are not expecting RE experts as summer interns. Don't stress at all.
wtf is engrish?
Asian English, in a derogatory way. He was asking for advice and being racist in the same post; great way to garner responses.
