Internship after Freshman Year

I will be a freshman this coming year. What are the best places to try to get internships the summer after my freshman year to help me out on my quest towards Investment banking?

I will be going to UIUC so would I have a chance at an internship in Chicago the summer after freshman year?

Do I even have a chance at an IB internship or should I just be looking at merchant banks and PWM? Also, around what time should I start cold calling and sending out resumes to different places?

I appreciate the help. Thanks!

Private Wealth Management, Boutique IB's and start EARLY. I am also a freshman and didn't start until February. I realized that many interviews actually go on during the Fall time, so start then. Also don't forget to network, set up some appointments to meet alumni and get their story so you will be in a better position when it comes time for them to make a decision on hiring you for internships during you soph or junior year.

Waymon3x6 and anyone else who can help, how do I go about setting up appointments to meet alumni. I feel like as a freshman I wouldn't have access to any of this? Also, should I just look up PWM positions and Boutiques and call all of them I am able to or what should I do to start trying to get interviews with them? Let me know. Thanks

How many times are we going to ask this question?

1) A BB PWM will be ahead of the game for your freshman summer. Just email regional BBs (ML) near your house. 2) Read The Wall Street Journal everyday to stay on top of financial news. (to get full stories-- copy the title and paste into Google) 3) Read Monkey Business, Investment Banking- Valuation, LBO's, and M&A, and Liar's poker. 4) Utilize the search function on this site for any questions you have (They've been answered). 5) Join a finance club at your school and get involved with other ECs. 6) Next semester, make sure you keep your GPA as high as possible while networking and cold emailing boutiques. 7) You go to a good semi/target school, so you shouldn't have a problem finding an SA position in Chicago your sophomore year, but you can try in the fall too. 8) You should try your best to follow this path: Freshman-PWM, Sophomore- boutique SA, Junior- BB SA, Senior- BB FT offer.

One more thing, would I just call the number listed on their website for the Chicago location. Because, I can't seem to find any emails that I would be able to send anything to. If anyone could help me out on these questions it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

It's easier to get an internship in a regional office abroad but given that your american you will have to stick to boutiques in your area. if you are an incoming freshman, i am unsure if your school will let you intern right away in your first semester tbh. You can try and maybe you can find someone whos glad that you will work for credit
