Interview process has gone cold - what has happened?

I work in an uncommon cross-functional role at a BB. About 3 weeks ago, I came across an advertised opening for a similar role at another BB. Instead of applying directly, I reached out directly to the hiring manager on LinkedIn (we have a few common connections) and introduced myself. He replied almost immediately and invited me for coffee. We had an extended conversation, and he agreed that my background was a very good match...I thanked him by email and he invited me for lunch the following week. We talked some more about the role, he said that he would arrange a couple interviews and video conferences with key people, and that the process would hopefully go quickly. The next day, his assistant reached out about scheduling not two, but six interviews/VCs with various people, all very senior, spanning several functions over the span of two weeks. Ahead of the first couple interviews, he dropped me emails giving me some background and what to focus on.

One of the VCs was with his own boss, who turned out to have worked at my current firm in the past, knew my current boss, praised my work and said she hoped that we would be able to work together (as though the job was mine). Every one of these interviews seemed to go well, with the person saying that they felt it was a great fit. Meanwhile, I noticed that the hiring manager hadn't sent me any further advice ahead beyond the first two meetings. I made a point of emailing some feedback following each discussion and expressing continued interest in the opportunity. The last of the scheduled interviews was on Monday morning, after which I emailed again to say that I had found all of these highly interviews highly informative and looked forward to speaking soon. I still haven't heard back.

This extended period of silence over the past 1.5 weeks stands in contrast to his warmth and responsiveness earlier in the process. But if I am out of the running, why not cancel the last two meetings (which were with senior people, whose time is presumably important...and why did these people continue to say there was a good fit)? Should I call this guy up, or will it seem desperate? Better to give it more time? After all this, I would expect some feedback even if it were negative.
