Repeating Interview Stories on Super Day
I have an upcoming super day where I’ll have 6 back-to-back interviews. I expect all of them to be mostly behavioral. Is it bad to repeat stories across multiple rounds? I know you shouldn’t repeat stories when talking to the same interviewer, but coming up with 6 answers for the same question seems a bit daunting.
I'd go with basically the same stories, but refine them over the course of the day. Is a slight joke not landing? Cut it. IMO interviews should be a little bit improv anyway, so it's more about being able to turn it into a conversation than anything else.
Superday - Getting asked the same question repeatedly (Originally Posted: 06/24/2014)
I just finished my first superday structure interviews. Many of the questions were repeated by different interviewers. Is it okay to use the same story/response?
Yes
No, you must have 3 tailored stories and personalities lined up in your back pocket for the junior, mid, & senior bankers.
Interview: Same Questions over and over? (Originally Posted: 02/13/2011)
So I just got back from a super day with 4 managers.
They all asked behavioral questions and I felt like each manager asked me the same question over and over maybe worded a little differently. They asked questions like "Tell me a time you used leadership skills...." and I could only think of the same example.
I was wondering if thats something that works against you, since I could only recall the same example.
Some of them took notes some of them didn't.
I was wondering what your thoughts were.
Thanks
Not directly related to your thread but I've never heard the "what's your weakness" question, ever, in an interview.
I got asked this question by Jefferies
Haha I doubt it will work against you, relax. They don't go into that much detail discussing candidates.
I went through the exact same thing - summer S&T program, four one-on-one interviews and they all asked almost the exact same questions. I don't know if they ended up talking about my answers in depth, but it couldn't have hurt too badly as I got an offer.
This happened to me too. There were like 2-3 standard fit questions that I got asked by almost all interviewers. I would just recommend using your best prepared answers. Giving the same answer will not go against you in any way, but giving a less than desirable answer will- so just use your best ones.
It tends to be a very repetitive process. Be thankful for that, it gives you a chance to hone your skills all day. The hardest interviews are the ones where you get curveballs all throughout. The most difficult thing is to maintain your level of enthusiasm the 10th time you are telling the same story or answering the same question much like it's your first.
To the poster above that said they've never gotten the "biggest weakness" question in an interview, I'd say that's pretty fortunate. I've gotten it in at least half of all of the interviews I've ever had.
I got what's your weakness from JP Private Bank.
