Interview s&t suspect conflict of interest

So I had an interview last Friday at a BB sales and trading fixed income and equities. This was for summer analyst.

3 interviewers

1 went ok, but I could tell the woman had something against me...she wen't to Wharton and maybe he thought I wasn't good enough

2 went great

3 great

I got the "nice" rejection email

I have connections at the bank and I was able to get my feedback from the interviewers....

interviewer #1 failed me

interviewer #2 very good

Interviewer #3 very good

most of the kids that interviewed were from Wharton; my concern is that she used me to make it statistically easier for Wharton kids to get the job. Our interview wasn't terrible...she asked questions- some answers I knew some I didn't, but I shared my opinion every time....I had some great stories to tell her and overall I think I that out of 10 it was a 5 at bear minimum...on a scale of not hire, hire, and immediate hire...a hire was appropriate...I didn't fuck up so bad to be failed.......It was because of her that I didn't get it..even if she gave me a middle score I would have gotten the job...

My contact is close to me and he is a well respected VP is there anything I could do without coming off as a bad sport/blood sucker?

 

If your contact is close to you, ask him what you can do. He will know your situation and be able to help you exponentially better than any of us can.

My contact is family; I will not lose him if I set the building on fire...Sorry for not including that...

I don't want to seem like an annoying inexperienced brat, but I want this more than anything in my life and will do anything to get it....My contact is too passive aggressive..I was hoping som1 on the forum here who is aggressive at work could give me some ideas...I will pass them on to him and maybe something will happen. If I get in this way it will take away from my chance at a full time offer at that bank...so what? I will have summer analyst at BB on my resume and be able to talk about it for 2 hours....better than working for a financial advisor at edward jones while taking summer classes......or working at a boutique without too much growth opp

 

The answer is, honestly, you can ask your connection for a bit more info but if you know the person failed you it could be for who knows what reason. I'd ask him for advice and cordial about it. I wouldn't try to press your way in unless he offers to do it without you implying or suggesting it.

Honestly, it sounds like the first person could have had a chip on her shoulder or something... or she didn't like what you were wearing or whatever. It happens. Maybe you interviewed after someone who was so amazing you looked like an entire pile of turd. Maybe she thought you looked like an ex of hers. You never know... Don't beat yourself up over it and move in.

 

LOL yes I did...it was my first interview ever so I think it was a great learning experience... your not telling me anything new though? There is little I can do at this point...there are some really smart and experienced people on this forum....I was hoping that som1 with allot of brains may have a positive suggestion

 

Some patience is in order here. Go out and prove her wrong. Then come back in 18 months as an associate and start promoting your "less-prestigious" school.

In the long run, competence and results always trump everything else. Don't get mad, get even- it's a lot of fun. :-) You just can't get even if you're angry or impatient.

As far as asking him what to do..he is going to recommend getting experience and following the markets non-stop till I graduate so that I will be able to better defend myself.
Smart guy. Strong industry experience and a track record trumps academic background, though it really needs to be 18-24 months to truly be full house against a three-of-a-kind.

What are my chances to interview for a company if I wasn't hired after interviewing for internship....since its an internship does it have less weight than interviewing for full time job in terms of repeat interview?

Depends on how the market is doing that year and who you interview with in the next round. But you definitely get another shot after 1-2 years of industry experience.

I say get some industry experience, prove her wrong, and find ways to couthely gloat about it after you get hired in and prove yourself.

Calm down, tell yourself that she's an idiot, but don't make a big deal of it. Some outsider isn't going to win against an Associate or VP. Instead you have to go out and prove her- and the people who listened to her- wrong.

Hmm. Sounds like a lot of peoples' experiences. Be patient; someone will be smart enough to hire you.
 

dubsfan- this is just speculating, but are you showing enough interest during interviews in the firms you are getting rejected by? like if they ask you what you know about their company, do you have a very detailed and thorough answer?

I mean I always say that I am extremely excited about potentially working at firm X and then get into specifics. And the interviewer usually has said yes that's exactly right, or I agree, or yeah you'll definitely find that here. So I assume that I'm conveying interest correctly, but do they always say that? Like if they said why this BB? and I said because of your top notch recyclying program would they no matter what say Yes we are well known for that.. (I kid, I kid)
